***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

I may get hate for this but that's ok.

2017 - 25-22
2018 - 33-19
2019 - 27-18
2020 - 11-5 (Despite finishing the season with a losing record)
2021 - 21-15
2022 - 28-23
2023 - 27-11

172 -113, a .604 winning percentage, would be the 5th best record in the MLB this year.

This is Craig Counsell's record in 1 run games the last 7 years. While I'm sure luck is a factor, I would argue a large part of that is his ability to manage games.
I’d give the front office more credit than Counsell for pretty much always having a good bullpen, but I understand your hidden point of putting the blame on Ross. They had Hader and Williams for a large part of the stretch you posted and both of them are miles better than any reliever the Cubs have had lately

Genuinely no blame or hit on Ross, he hasn't had a MLB-talented roster until this year and while I've been hard on him, he deserves some leniency in that he hasn't actually had a competitive team in three years; I'd just expect many of the mistakes from this year to be cleared up next year now that he knows what it's like.

My point was that I just feel Counsell is pretty damn good at winning with what he can control. While the Brewers do have a **** ton of luck, I also think he deserves a bit of credit; he manages to win close games year in and year out.

I think best case scenario was always Cubs winning 2 of 3, and the Taillon game would be the L in that scenario, without question, so hopefully the next two aren’t a mess.

Imagine telling your roster that you're trying to compete and running taillon out every 5 days.

Maybe but facing Burnes& Woodruff the next 2 games is not ideal.

Hasn’t Taillon been our best pitcher the last month? And didn’t he just have a no hitter going into the 6th inning last week?

He got lit up. But the Yelich homerun was the only earned run he gave up, and the ball was out of the zone according to k zone. He’s fine, we’re fine

He got slapped around, but there was only 1 earned that inning.

Just don’t let that **** happen again and we’ll win this one.
I counted at least 3 earned runs, I think only the 1 off the sac fly should be unearned?

I believe the sac fly would’ve been the 3rd out, so any runs after that wouldn’t count. Could be wrong with that.

Fact is, Swanson doesn’t make that error, only one run scores that whole inning.
