Can’t wait for the 9pm-10pm local kickoff times for any PST games. Makes for some great house parties!

Now if we can only manage to bring Hawaii into the mix.

Better than Big XII Europe!

You’d still need a couple more teams to have an After Dark window every week unless BYU/Utah/Colorado will do 8:30 PM local time kicks. (And I think we should push them to do this at least once a year personally.)

Otherwise, with only 2 schools you can’t have a consistent late game short of those two playing all of their home games at night.
I guess it depends what its worth to ESPN/Fox/mystery third partner.

Personally, I really don't want to go past 16 unless its helps make us more money, and even then I'm skeptical.

Az is pacific time during fb season but maybe that’s not enough.
I am guessing they want a little more flexibility in scheduling late night games. The Arizona schools aren’t going to want to alternate playing a home night game every other week.

Hasn't Yormark also talked to Memphis? In any case, the universities would need to approve any new additions, and I would think most of them like where we're at now... especially for football. The B10 and SEC didn't get where they are by throwing lifelines to schools. The B12 shouldn't either.

Sure BY is talking to SDSU, OSU, UCONN, Gonzaga, etc. BY never sleeps. He is laying down smokescreens as he leaves the building.

One of the reasons the PAC didn’t get great offers is because of the Pacific time zone. 90% of the country doesn’t watch those late games.

There are so much bigger fish like Pitt and VA Tech to set our sights on. Rescuing OSU or WSU would be embarrassing for the conference.

I don't care if they take the call, but I sure hope we aren't having serious consideration of it. The noise FSU is making, we really need to wait on the ACC collapse. Arizona and Utah schools are plenty for ESPN late night games.

I mean, lets face it, in this silliness there's no real limit on conference size anymore. Its not about teams playing each other, its about conglomerating media rights. So there's no 'leaving room' for teams.

Now, whether it makes financial sense to be inviting some of these teams is its own independent question. I could see a couple more west coast schools (at discounted rates) making sense if there's a desire by ESPN to have more west coast schools to maintain a late window up against Fox. But ESPN would at least need to meet the conference halfway there.

Seriously, how does Kliavkoff still have a job?

I don’t think we’ll add OSU and SDSU, but SDSU should’ve been added to the Pac as soon as CU left. Yet they would rather be with the Big 12 than trying to band with the remaining 4 and rebuild a west coast conference.
Problem is the remaining Pac 4 don't have a TV deal after Summer 2024. And SDSU has that big exit fee through the 2024/25 FY.

Those 2 give them the Pacific Timezone which is still missing from all this expansion.
Seriously, why would this matter. Big 12 has two in the Arizona time zone and three in mountain. The idea that those 5 teams couldn’t kickoff at, gasp, 8 pm local time in what is now a time zone with four bigger brands in the big 10 is just crazy. Hell, the SEC dabbled with central time zone local kicks at 9 pm with some success. Adding low value brands to fill that makes little sense.

The PAC should have added them before their buyout went up. SDSU should have stuck with their intent to leave. Both messed up, everyone knew the PAC would need them.

Our old pal mhver is saying Fox won't agree to more additions, this is an ESPN only thing for more inventory to late night. Ok ESPN, you want two more west teams pony up fox's part of the $32M so we can bring them in at full share or no dice. If they won't pony it up now, why do we believe it wouldn't be dilutive after this contract? I'd also only do it if Stanford is 1 of the 2 additional. They can't fill a stadium, but at least they have a brand espn will talk about. SD St, UConn, wazzu, ore st can battle for the best compliment to them. I still don't love it. Wait for the ACC is a much better strategy.

With Arizona not observing DST, they are essentially Pacific time until the time change in November. So they're basically Pacific time for nearly all of football season.
Yea and I recall that BYU had some 8:00 and later kicks. So Mountain schools might not be adverse to Sat After Dark if it means 1M+ viewers.

But with SDSU it would be a Pac5. With last week's moves, SDSU made a great decision to stay in MWC.

No way the Apple deal would have stayed on table with ORWA gone. Probably why UU & ASU's interest in Big12 pivoted so quickly.

Based on this from altimore’s Twitter feed I bet you can guess the school that wouldn’t fit the “big 10 model”. I think it starts with an O.

This makes sense to me. It still has to be really hot in Arizona in September…and even early October. You would think all their home games in those two months should be late…

This is good data. You could have all 5 of those schools play 2 home games in that 10:15 ET window. Maybe 3 of them bite the bullet and play 3 on a rotation. Boom, there’s 13 weeks of After Dark inventory.

You don’t need SDSU, Oregon State etc. to have that window fully covered.

We should be prepared for ISU to play 1 or 2 conference away games at 9:15 PM local. Price of expanding west, I guess.
