The WSJ is full of crap just as often as it's insightful. Sure OU and Texas built up valuable football brands over the last 25 years, but the B12 helped them along the way. The conference has always been tough from top to bottom (except for KU). Teams like ISU, KSU, TCU and OSU performed quite well in out of conference games enabling the B12 to be consistently ranked as the #2 or #3 toughest conference in most years.
Hopefully the B10 and SEC continue to schedule games against the B12. And of course, the B12 needs to continue playing well.
I think by “enough” you mean the whole MWC. Anyone left out is absolutely going to sue claiming that some (or all) the schools that go to the PAC had a conflict of interest when they voted to dissolve. And they’ll win.
Also, the PAC still doesn’t have a media deal. What are those AAC or MWC schools signing up for? Probably better than what the MWC and AAC has, but how much better?
How much do you think the ACC schools would have to pay to get out? I walked through the numbers and I think they’d have to put up close to $500M each. Buyout fee, media rights from ESPN & ACC Network, damages to other institutions, etc etc.
How much additional income do you think those schools might make in the B10 or SEC over 11 years (assuming 2025-26 through 2035-36 as it’s getting to do this for 2024)? I coming up with somewhere in the neighborhood of $500M.
Walk me through your numbers.

The money from the Mountain West media is negligible.
Clearly the PAC-4 should see what they can get from Apple with a home/away double round-robin format. The novelty alone is worth it…they could bill it as ”One True Champion.
Playoff should be 3 maximum from any conference.
I think people are incorrect when they think teams owe their ACC would-be media dollars. They are forfeiting all dollars they would get for their games being televised. As I understand they would have a penalty plus be getting zero media dollars for the life of the GoR.
Also, in terms of SEC bound teams, why on earth would ESPN pay way more money to move teams they already have full rights to televise?
ESPN already gets to televise Clemson and FSU for dirt cheap. So those schools are on their own. No motivation from the TV partner there.
And I think there is absolutely no chance that UNC or UVA have enough value for Fox and NBC to shell out that much money.
It’s far more likely that there would be 8 schools knowing they can get into the Big 10, SEC and Big 12 to dissolve the league. I dont think there’s explicit language around dissolving the league, but supposedly it is under NC law, which states a simple majority can dissolve a non-profit.

What you mean is "it doesnt make sense when its me and mine getting hurt". Tough crap. Nobody shed one tear when the Big12 was getting raided time and again. Zero empathy for that statement.
Eh, they've been in the same place we were. Hating it, but hoping for their own survival. Neither of us controlled our own destinies, we just came out on the somewhat lucky side.
I believe Wall Street Journal numbers, which actually came from a professor at Indiana/Purdue. They highlight the definitive tiers of college football, but also how easily brand values change (at least based on his metrics).
The last report I can find from him was 2019. Ohio State's brand supposedly lost $462 mil in value from 2017 to 2018. They were still the 2nd most valuable brand worth supposedly $1.048B. The $462 mil they "lost" was basically equal to the 16th most valuable brand.

That could have been true, until the Big10 came and offered Oregon and Washington.
I think the Big10 was pretty silent, until Colorado left. Then when it looked like Arizona was going to leave, I think the Big10 acted quickly to offer Oregon and Washington. After that, it was over.
Crow alleges and the OSU guy said all were in. I question how close the schools were to signing this Friday deal. 4 had no choice but to sign, Utah probably due to the Pac loyalty, and ASU as Crow 100% Pac.
