Campbell Still in Demand?

10,000 of your own fans at every game. Big 10 West going away.

Keep going.

- Could be displaced during the stadium build
- The area is in a part of the world that God hates
- ****** Chicago media. Maybe start "another failed ISU coach to Chicago" narrative that sticks
- Picking up after a scandal
- Poor fan support even in a market they "capture"
- Academic standards

That said. Campbell could totally make Northwestern successful.

If Campbell was to actually leave for Northwestern, can we just trade coaches and hire Fitz? That is assuming that these allegations are just that allegations. It does seem odd to me that the entire current team came out in support of him if all those problems were happening.

There’s obviously some bs going down in that athletic dept. Will be a tough sell regardless of who they go after.

yeah- i tend to lean with the coach in a situation like that

but its tough to know who to actually believe.

Sorry I meant their away games plus whatever home games have more away fans.

Got it. I smell what you're cookin' now.

I've only seen Iowa play there and both times it was very much an Iowa crowd. It's a shame they let their stadium go to ****. It had a real historic vibe. Last time it was just an embarrassment.

But maybe they've had their eye on the new stadium for some time.

Beautiful campus. On the lake.

New stadium in the works. Sweet sweet B1G money.

Academics still mean something there.

A lot of positives.

I think Fitzgerald is a good coach and they've only won one conference game in the past 3 full seasons. It was a hard job prior to NIL/Transfer portal era, now it might be an impossible job.

Admissions won't play ball to help get transfer portal guys in like most schools do. Stanford has had the same problem. Not a coincidence they both have stunk the past few seasons.

if campbell every leaves for northwestern ill chop my own balls off and fry them up and eat them.

Or the cureent team might be all covering their own tracks.

It's surprising he was cut so quickly but coaches can put on quite a show to be really clean cut on the surface when it's a mess behind the curtains.

Matt Campbell, Iowa State head coach

Campbell is one of the biggest college names I suspect would get consideration for the job. He was raised in the Big Ten footprint, as a Massillon, Ohio, native who starred at Mount Union before getting the Toledo job, where he was excellent, going 35-15. He took a tough job in Ames and led Iowa State to its best season ever, finishing No. 9 in 2020. The last two seasons Iowa State has tailed off, going 11-14, but folks inside the football world know just how good a coach he is. He’s still only 43. He’s had chances to leave ISU before, but this is a Big Ten job. Would he be tempted? We’re not sure. If he can lead the Cyclones

JFC, why not add Nick Saban and Dabo Sweeney to the list. NW is arguably the worst job in the Big 10...its Vanderbilt with a bit more success.

Unless they want to wildly overpay, no established name is going there. Especially 7 weeks before the season starts.

Northwestern, this. Penn State, that. Mich St, doctor. Ohio St, wrestling. Iowa, racism.
Great conference ya got there.

The calling card for a coach is the super power conference era.

It won't be an elite coach but someone who's been decent will like the B1G's coverage.

I think Northwestern has some advantages (money, location, new stadium coming, B1G exposure) but a ton of detractors (fan interest, AD a mess, scandal, no more B1G West, academic standards, etc). I think the detractors outweigh the advantages by quite a large margin.

I could see somebody like Shaw going there – a place with relatively checked expectations and academic standards he’s used to recruiting against. He failed pretty spectacularly at Stanford after their big stretch so it may be the best he can get.
