***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

What could he possibly still need to show at this point? He (and Morel) are both crushing AAA pitching to an absurd degree. There's nothing more they can do in the minors. Either they're ready or they're AAAA players. Either way, it's time to find out which it is.
As we both know by now Mervis had his debut. Problem with Morel is where is he going to get his ABs?

Last year when Morel came up he played 5 different positions, so he has flexibility to get platoon/rest at bats.

But long term seems like his best chance to be an everyday player is at 3rd base. Wisdom was off to a hot start, so it makes sense to keep Morel at AAA.

Depending on if Cubs are buyers/sellers at trade deadline could determine where Morel fits for the Chi Cubs in 2023.

Right not Madrigal or Velazquez would have to go down if he comes up. Morel can play all over the field much like Zobrist did so he could spell any of the regulars when they need a day off really.

Worst record through 50 games in MLB history for teams that eventually made the playoffs: 18-32 (2005 Astros, 1974 Pirates)

The Cardinals are all but past the point of no return.

I think I'm to the point of agreement. The pitching is just atrocious and I can't see them being buyers if they're this far out of it

I don't think any of us truly realized how awful Willson was/is at handling a staff and that's before you get into framing/blocking. I'm glad we didn't pay him and make him the guy that was going to be handling all these young kids over the next few years.

Does Contreras still sit there with his glove down as the pitcher is going into his motion?

As a former pitcher that alwasy drove me nuts when I didn't have a target to throw at and it affected my control. Anytime I'd have a new catcher I'd have to give them a lecture on how I can't hit spots when they're moving around all the time.

I realize you don't want to setup too soon so you don't tip your location but Contreras was really poor at this the last few years I watched him.

MLB catchers usually hide the location till the last second today.

Cards are toast, and its only mid may. This is what Pittsburgh fans must feeling this early in the season. Furk

I still think they'll start playing better ball eventually, but I'll be shocked if they get hot enough to get within shouting distance of contention in the standings.

I really thought the Cardinals would be solid this year. Their lineup on paper is playoff worthy. Pitching I guess not so much.

Ok, here's my GM moves between now and the start of 24.

Trade Barnhart after the season to make room for Amaya.

Pay the buyout on Bellinger for PCA to take over CF.

Trade Davis to the Royals for Chapman. Extend him 1 or 2 at 5mil per. (Making 3.5 this year but in his mid 30s) still threw 103 the other day.

Pay the buyout on Hendricks.

Teade Bote at the deadline. (He's 5.5 mil)

Extend Stroman.

Take option on Smyly at 10mil.

Sign Ohtani ( guessing 55mil per)
