Agreed, I've said it here many times I didn't think they would go into the season with Buechele as their only backup as there is just too much at stake to go with him as QB2 without taking a single NFL game snap yet. Needed an experienced option there if the unthinkable happened and Mahomes were to miss significant time. Gabbert is kind of the same mold that Henne was, has some previous starting experience but not a guy that had great success as a starter but at least gives you an experienced safety net at the position.
Experienced, sure, but that's about it. There are clearly worse options for a QB2, but considering KC's tight cap, you certainly weren't getting much.
He’s got talent. Andy Reid can make any QB look good, well assuming they have at least some level of talent. I’m not saying he’d make me a good QB by any means.
I wouldn't be surprised if KC uses some of their extra picks to trade up for someone they have their eye on that is still available in that 20-30 range

I know the odds of them hitting on their roster spots with some of the lower picks the more you have has worked in the past, but I hope they trade some of the picks to trade up this year.
After signing the backup QB today, and the WR's that they signed during free agency, plus throw in its very possible they will sign one or two more D lineman, at most there is 5 to 6 spots open on the roster. Chiefs have 10 picks, I would rather they move up and get four quality players out of this draft than anything else at this point. 1- WR, 1-rushend, 1-O tackle and then another corner.
They have plenty of depth in the backfield, linebackers look solid, and the WR crew looks OK, but they could use one more deep threat in the group.
Agree with the four quality picks but could use a DT and another LB. Not going to pay Gay next year and need to keep refreshing young group. Wouldn’t be surprised to take an extra WR or TE and cut one of the veterans.
Would guess 7-8 draftees. Maybe one doesn’t make team.
I think they will pick up another DT during training camp like they did this past year if not before, we have 4 good LB's with the guy we signed the other day, none will be able to leave the team until after the season. Get a rush end, O tackle, WR and then either another TE or Dback.
Overall the roster should be very good, and I doubt if we take 10 picks that half would make the active roster, could be lots on the practice squad this season.
Agree. Package some draft picks to move up and try for 5 better quality selections. No need to draft 8 or 9 players when you will be cutting them later due to lack of roster space. Hard to catch lightening in a bottle like last year when so many picks made the team.
I generally agree with this. I’ll add that they could upgrade S depth. They’ll need to take a CB if they feel they can’t extend Sneed.

ESPN+ Kiper and McShay did a mock yesterday and Kiper had the Chiefs grab McDonald with the last pick of the first round as he will compliment Karlaftis very well.
Midway thru his career, Matt Campbell verbalized how Trevor Downing was a Big 12 upper tier talent and the leader of the O Line. Then the lost season due to injury and the decision to shift to the center position. Which I perceived by Downings willingness for the position change as CMC’s ability to convince him that was where his best chance was to get in the NFL. Then last season’s flop and there has been no mention of Downing in the Combine or any other NFL chatter to any degree. Is he off the NFL radar? Do the Chiefs have any UDFA interest?
If McDonald is the 1st round pick for the chiefs I’m buying the jersey and I’m a 41 year old man whose last jersey purchase was an Andre Rison jersey.
I just don't see the Chiefs taking McDonald. Not at all what Spags looks for in his d lineman.
I see McDonald as a Frank Clark type that worked well in the Cheifs system. Similar build and playing style.
