Looks to me like Gilbert is a big guard who does a decent job of facilitating and can shoot the 3 when needed. Seems like a good combo guard to me.

Averaged 11.4 ppg on 27.4 mpg

Similar A/TO and steal rates as Tamin, but Gilbert actually shoots 3's and has a higher usage rate due to that it appears. I wonder how Gilbert is on defense though.

He looks to have potential that is for sure. And more than likely being from Vegas TJ is already familiar with him.

TJ recruited him to UNLV, but he stayed committed after TJ left

Article about how it unfolded: https://lasvegassun.com/news/2021/apr/12/incoming-2021-recruit-keshon-gilbert-still-intends/

Funny that it mentions Gilbert wouldn't be a good fit for Otz because he's a defense-first player...

Key quotes:

As the 2020-21 season unfolded, Gilbert and Otzelberger discussed the possibility that the coach could leave for Iowa State, but much like the UNLV fan base, Gilbert was in the dark when the actual decision was made.

“He told me there was a chance he was leaving,” Gilbert said. “But then when he left I saw it on the internet.”

Gilbert said Otzelberger called him shortly thereafter to let him know first-hand. It was a blow to Gilbert, who cites Otzelberger as the main reason he chose UNLV in the first place.

Though Gilbert was disappointed by Otzelberger’s move, he ultimately understood the motive behind it and isn’t letting it change his perception of the UNLV program.

“I wasn’t happy about it, but at the end of the day I know it’s a business and everybody is going to do what’s best for them,” Gilbert said. “I wasn’t really mad at him. He did something to better his life, so I got no hate toward him. I still love him. It was a shock . That was really it. It was a shock.”

This basically makes it known that TJ was going to be our coach before they even fired Prohm.
Not necessarily. TJ had what, 3 days between Prohm being fired and him being announced as the new coach.

That's plenty of time to discuss with his players.

Am I to assume we are out with Dalton Knecht from Northern Colorado? he seems like a good get for some lucky team. See he has an Indiana visit.

I think Gilbert would be a good piece, and would fit defensively, but would make landing a pure shooter/scorer with one of the other schollies that much more important.

Looks like he's a capable shooter, but still only made 1 more from 3 on just 10 fewer attempts than Jaz, and I don't think anyone would say Jaz was a "shooter". We have the defense thing down...let's get some scorers!
