Averaged 13.5 assists in the tournament. Sounds like you're seeing what you want to see.
Nowell was great, but he wasn't great over two stretches- the last couple minutes of MSU regulation and from about the 8 minute to 2 minute mark yesterday. He became the K-State offense and the other 4 guys stood around.

I put that more on Tang than Nowell. A coach can ride the hot hand too long. Counter that with FIU's team approach and it didn't surprise me FIU was able to execute it's offense at the end.

Jameel McKays poor senior year overshadows how elite of a 5 he was his Junior year
that is because Hoiberg understood how to get the most out of him. He told him to protect the rim and run the floor, he did both very well. Prohm had him guarding on the perimeter and hedging out on picks

McKay struggled to guard his junior year if put in position to.

There was word that his worry when Hoiberg left was who was going to watch over him and there was something where Prohm expecting him to practice was an issue.

The outcome was good as McKay eventually came around but imo it's kind of weird if basic adulting was such a high bar.

Nah, they killed k State bc they had multiple guys who could attack off the dribble and get other players good looks. They won the game by getting in the paint and making passes to cutters.

They also defended pretty well and doubled up on rebounding.

Speed is their biggest strength imo.

If shooters were the lone requirement TOE would win tourney games.

I can say knowing direct sources from the situation that Royce had multiple babysitters while in Ames to make sure he could stay out of trouble. Hoiberg had the people around to make sure his headaches stayed out of trouble.

Favorite Jameel McKay story -

Im at Cy’s Roost. He walks by. Couple cute girls walk by him, he goes “hey ladies, wanna take a picture with me?” They go “who are you?” And he goes “I’m Jameel McKay, baby!”

He was on his visit, not even a member of the team yet, and thought he was a household name in Ames lol

Robins, Iowa
And multiple guards
One of the things that I saw as a pitfall for ISU from the beginning of the season. There were only 2 guards on the Clones that could actually handle the ball and one of those couldn't shoot. Gabe and Grill could provide some scoring, but they were not good ball handlers. The loss of Williams and not getting Greene(sp) along with the late departure of Hunter really left ISU short on guards, and it was a struggle most of the year after ISU suddenly stopped being able to turn teams over.

When Nowell starts feeling like he has to do everything.... KState is not very good.
Said that during the last 6 min last night. Nowell tried doing to much on his own without getting others involved. Then in the last play he passed it off and I don't think anyone was expecting it.

I remember seeing Jameel at AJs every weekend when I was in school. Talked with him pretty regularly, I really liked that guy.

Not that any coach could’ve handled the headcase he was, but he would’ve been elite as a player under any other coach than Prohm.

Trying to avoid that area of discussion but direction and knowing where he stood may have helped Lard.
