Well… as a Ferrari fan, not what you would like to see to start the year.
Red Bull started out that way last year. Because of how dominantly they finished the season, people forget how poorly 2022 started for Red Bull. I’m not really a fan of any particular team, just rooting for a more competitive field in general. Unfortunately, Red Bull looks pretty dominant. Even if Leclerc finishes he doesn’t catch the RBs.

It would have been fun to see if Alonso could have caught Leclerc though. I forget how far ahead Leclerc was when his car quit.

Imagine if Alonso had been able to get a clean start too.

Red Bull being Red Bull…Ferrari being Ferrari and Aston ready to make some noise. Enjoyable first weekend.

I’m pretty new to F1. Caught a few races last year. Couldn’t watch today but will later. What makes Red Bull so much better than everybody else? I know Verstappen is a clear reason but what about the cars. They all look the same to an untrained eye that I’d think there would be more parity but there isn’t.

Their engine is really fast in a straight line. They are really the only ones running that spec. Alpha Tauri is a sister team, riunning the Honda too, but they don’t get the stop engine. Similar to Ferrari customers.

Also Adrian Newey, the Chief engineer/designer of the car. He just really got it right. I think his years in Indycar helped when F1 went back to ground effects. He had good experience with that in Indy. It seems RB was the least affected by porpoising last year. I think that helped them focus on the speed of the car as opposed to trying to fix porpoising.

I'm not the guy you're looking for but I did see a cool map yesterday of who was fastest in qualifying through different parts of the track. Basically it showed Ferrari was fastest on the straights, Aston Martin was the fastest around the really tight turns, and Red Bull was fastest everywhere else.

Verstappen is a great driver . One of the best . I also think about any of the top ten drivers could drive a Red Bull car to a win. Their cars are just that much better.

I know this will sound a little counterintuitive but there was a scene in Days of Thunder where Harry Hogg talked about a loose car and a tight car. Loose is fast and Max Verstapen is really good at getting the most out of a loose car. If you subscribe to the Athletic there is a really good article about how Max drives.

I was sad Hulkenburg got into an accident so quick. He had a good weekend. Wonder what he can do this year with what looks like a better car than last year

You’d have to think Haas could push up and be competitive with AT and Williams. Had a weird tire strategy today.

I don’t understand Kevin’s strategy at all, he lost pace so quickly and his race was over before it started. Guenther alluded to that he was on the wrong tires. He did start to get pace towards the end, but too little too late.
Hulk will be fine I think. At this point he’s still getting his feet wet again. He’ll be just fine and won’t cost the team millions per season and for Haas that goes a LONG ways.

This is the reason. Max is a great driver, but the car makes that big of a gap. Newey is light years ahead on the ground effect downforce. This is also why Ashton Martin, jumped up, they took Newey's number two, and magically have a car that is better balanced than everyone but Red Bull.

I will say this, I don't think we can fully judge the cars until they get back to Europe. The upcoming street circuits will give us some weird results. But RB appear to be way out front, if that isn't true the whole season, that will be a surprise to me.

Will be interesting if Merc radically changes their car during the year, or if they throw in the towel, and put all their 2023 development into 2024.

Looks like Alpine had a decent car, Gasly drove through the field, so that will help the midfield.

Someone get Williams some downforce.

Haas, why do you ever start a race on a harder tire. That was dumb.

Ferrari, will they ever stop blowing up? At some point this will hurt road car sales right?

Someone get Lando new car. Maybe a new team, kid deserves better than having to drive that piece of garbage. They may end up 10th this year.

Also I hope Piastri is loving his Zak Brown money. He has to be thining he made a bad move. A) I would much rather be Ocon's teamate than Lando, but I also would much rather drive an Alpine that can go from 20th to 8th than a Mclaren that will go from 8th to 20th.
