Thanks so much to @Gonzo for this thread! Here it goes:

Who would be on your Mount Rushmore of least favorite bands, singers, or musical acts?

But the catch is that it has to be legitimate bands/singers/performers that have large and very real fanbases and followings. So singers like Rick Astley, Billy Ray Cyrus, etc., who are kind of universally considered a joke, wouldn't count.

So, my personal example might be that I loathe Grateful Dead, ICP, Dave Matthews Band, and any and all early 2000s nu metal (Limp Bizkit, etc).

It's like you read my mind. My only addition because I have to single them out, is Hootie and The Blowfish. I want to stick my head in a grinder when I hear their music.

Whooo... there are a lot of good bands in that nu metal genre. I can definitely give you limp biscuit.

La La Land
Nirvana (overplayed), Beyonce (too full of herself), Luke Bryan (represents the worst of country music IMO), and BTS (I don't get the K-pop obsession)

DMB for the win. Taylor Swift is a good call too, I just don't get it.

My father-in-law has tried to convince me on several occasions that Taylor's ten-minute version of "All Too Well" from Saturday Night Live is the "greatest live performance of all-time!"

I mean... really? It's the same four ******* chords over and over again. And it's those four ******* chords (I-V-vi-IV) that make up approximately half the pop songs written since 2000!

"Oh, but the lyrics, and her performance!" The lyrics are... fine. They're just boy/girl relationship drama and then a breakup... sort of the theme she's revisited approximately 20 times. Yet another one of those "I'm a billionaire now but my hot celebrity ex-boyfriend was mean to me" songs of hers.

As to the performance, well, there's not much there. There's no solo or instrumental feature. She just strums the four home chords over and over again. The backup band does most of the real work, and there's no "build" in the production or a change in the timbre of the accompaniment (extreme examples, but think of the way something like "Hey Jude" or "All Around the World" actually builds between choruses).

She... doesn't break a sweat even under the studio lamps. She doesn't shed any tears. Her voice never breaks. It's a perfectly acceptable but bland performance for television. The odd thing is I like some of Taylor's work, but I like her more when she's not leaning on all her clichés, which this does in force.

The worst part is this is some old Boomer making this argument. He should have grown up with things like The Who's Live at Leeds, the Band's Rock of Ages, the Allman Brothers' Live at the Fillmore East, the Rolling Stones' Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!, and so many other powerhouse performances of that era.

Nope. Taylor. I'm pretty sure he's gay.

I'll probably take a lot of heat for this, but Bob Dylan is on my list. That voice and cadence is just awful. I can't think of a single Dylan song that I've enjoyed listening to with him singing.

Have you ever watched Rick Beato on YT? He's a long time producer and he loves to rail on recent music for the lack of chord changes and overuse of Audiotune. He definitely gives off "get off my lawn" vibes at times, but he's fun to watch occasionally.

Nickelback. That’s the entire mountain, just Nickelback. Unless that’s one of your “regarded as a joke” bands. ;)

You could add Nicki Minaj, too. I don’t really care for rap/hip-hop in general, but something about her just hits the wrong way. Dr. Hook always just seemed skeevy to me, I’d put them on this mountain. Jim Steinman and his bombastic over-produced semi-operatic trash (sorry Meat Loaf fans) can just check right out of here.
