Stop!

And I honestly love that he might return next year.

People don't appreciate how old our roster is and how that really helps us navigate this brutal schedule. Next year, we're gonna have a lot of young guys who know little about how hard you have to play and how physical you have to be to survive in this league, or how much you have to play for each other instead of yourself.

Robert Jones is the perfect role model for our very talented but very young players to follow.
You’re trying too hard. Your act isn’t even believable at this point.

People keep regurgitation this. He came as a transfer after a coach firing. I believe we were Jones only P5 school targeting him because we needed a big.

I honestly hate that he’s probably going to return next year, it’d be nice to have an open scholarship for a transfer
Past history says we'll have at least one departure. We need a center and a SF with range. Pretty sure we'll add exactly what we need.

Has he contributed on a Big 12 team?

I get it: he's not the physical type that you usually see on a decent P6 team.

He's also not alone in that regard on ISU's roster.

As it stands right now, 'not a Big 12 player' is last year's 'This doesn't even look like a tourney team'.

All the complaining in the world won't get you your wishes in regards to what's currently happening for ISU basketball.

Darn it. TJ doesn’t read this for info?

This is exactly the place for putting out what you wish or think should happen. None of us think our input will get looked at even once by anyone who makes any type of real decision in the athletic department. But what do you want CF to be? A sterile, Cyclone Athletic propaganda pusher? Message boards are full of stupid opinions and dumb comments, I know I have eaten my fair share of crow, deservedly, specifically with the TJ hiring, but that is what makes message boards worth coming to. If everyone had the same opinion, why would anyone join in on the conversation.

And there is what I'm getting at.

Arguing/disagreeing is absolutely a part of the deal and is a part of what humans do. We'll find anything.

The underlying theme of the constant struggle though that many have with Rob Jones playing is that they want to be right that Pollard didn't have enough Zoom meetings two years ago.

Im pretty sure that’s not the case, but maybe it is for others, I don’t know who was anti-TJ to start and if they still are that’s just dumb. But I do feel like most of us can look out there and see Rob should not touch the ball on offense unless it’s to swing the ball at the top of the key or to get a rebound. Anytime he does more than that it’s more often than not, going to end up with the ball going the other way and no points getting put on the board for ISU.

Repeating but just like marginal shooters need to put up a 3 to keep hold the defense accountable, there needs to be a feed to the post. I agree that a kick back out could be more helpful for sure.

Per the bolded: is there actually a stat for this? Like if Rob touches the ball down low it's a turnover or miss most of the time?

I don’t have an actual stat but I feel like I can count on one hand how many times he’s passed out when he’s gotten it in the post and he’s shooting 46% with some turnovers, so unless I miss when he passes out of the post, which I feel like I am surprised every time, it would be below 50 percent just based on that. But I could easily be incorrect. Maybe it’s just what it seems to be.

Here’s where I’ve landed with Rob using the transitive property.

TJ would not play someone who is not doing what they are coached to do. TJ continued to play Rob. As such, Rob must be doing what he is being coached to do.

Kid gives effort and TJ appears happy with how he’s contributing and that should really be enough for us.
It was my understanding, that there would be no math.

I think it's you who are acting. Acting like you're more knowledgeable than our coaching staff when it comes to managing minutes for our roster. Excuse me for trusting TJ's judgement (and my own) over yours.

.....IN THE NAME OF LOVE! BEFORE you.......break........................my....................................i'm sorry.

(I didn't bother to check all the pages, so hopefully I'm not repeating).

His moves are slow and lack explosiveness, making him easy to defend. His best move is the quick baby hook but he's rarely used it this year and especially in conference play.

Basically BRE has the coordination of a high school bench warmer but the height of a D1 athlete. His top end 'speed' is fine for running the floor but he lacks quickness/explosiveness. Maybe more importantly his decision making is wretched. I wish there was a stat for it but EVERY time Bob puts the ball on the floor something bad happens. There literally should be a rule against dribbling the ball, and if he doesn't initiate a post move immediately it should be kicked out. He lacks a natural feel for the game, forcing too many shots and having an insanely high failure rate in doing so.

Defensively the lack of quickness and anticipation cramps our defense. We rely heavily on switching and closeouts and BRE is poor at both, on the first one that's being able to guard off the switch. His foot speed is so slow that it often throws our defense into a tailspin, the Mizzou game and 2nd half at Tech being prime examples.

This isn't some freshman we play because we need and think he will develop and come around. An unathletic, uncoordinated big is exactly what he is. That's not BREs fault as I think he's busted his ass to make himself better. The fault is with the coaches for playing someone ill-equipped to contribute at the Big 12 level that many minutes.

He will never "get that down". Why? If he was capable he would have already.
You are a broken record. Get over yourself and get a life. Ignore button for you.

He should but he won't. Why? If the coaching staff was paying attention that would have happened weeks ago. For Jones to play more minutes (when not contributing) than King in a game where King was dominating is ridiculous. Simply no excuse for BRE to have more minutes than King.

This isn't middle school where you hand out trophies for effort. I don't doubt the effort, but at the end of the day a bad player with effort is still a bad player. There is simply no on the court evidence to justify BRE's minutes or the undying faith TJ apparently has with him.

BTW this might be the dumbest thread in CFW history. Flame away Defenders.
So you think this is the dumbest thread in CF history?

We'll, here's what I think is dumb. Having the audacity to think you know more than the staff who took a 2-22 program to the Sweet 16 the very next year and to the top of the Big 12 the following year (with wins over 4 top 10 teams). But you keep on sharing your critique of this staff. I'm sure they are soaking up all of your helpful feedback.
What's dumb is for you, ZRF, to continue to flail away. You have more than made your point. You made it in the KU game thread plus some overkill. You are adding to the overkill in this thread.

At least Clonefan240 has toned it down some here. This thread is only a reaction to your posts. Think about that for a moment.

Haha! I didn't feel like arguing with the other side. I agree! I'm not to the ignore quite yet, but getting there quickly.

I've watched a lot of ISU basketball and to be honest I can't even remember many back up centers. Many years I wish we had one. Rob's been an important part of a sweet 16 run, and a very successful season to this point. He forces shots at times, but that's the only beef I have. That's not with him, but wondering why TJ is letting him do it. Teams winning so what the hell do I know. Go Clones!!

Is ZRF a deep Iowa troll? We beat KU yet he comes on and has created 100s of post of poo. ( counting the responses back)

He's a misunderstood, stable genius-- veritable basketball coaching savant. That's why his wisdom deserves its very own game threads so it can be properly appreciated.

I love me some Bob Jones.

He isnt perfect. He gets sped up when the ball is in his hands and it doesnt always end well. I think thats why people lose their minds about him, the missed bunnies and turning it over in the lane.

Guy busts his ass all the time. He is a bruiser inside, the only one we have. King is smaller. Jaz and Grill are both guards ffs. Ward still a work in progress.

Bob does all the dirty work. Beats up on opponent bigs. Why do Grill, Jaz, and Lipsey have a ton of rebounds? Because Bob has his fat ass pushing an opponent big into the 2nd row to clear out the lane.

Gabe said something in the post game- "availability is the BEST ability". Without Bob absorbing some minutes and fouls, Osun cant play his most productive. 10 more minutes of Osun is 10 more minutes of him not being aggressive on defense so he wont foul out. Its Osun being gassed and unable to finish or move as fast on offense. 25 mins of Osun is Osun making an awards list. 35 mins of Osun is not.

Im not saying he is Lew Alcinder, Kelvin Cato, or Marcus Fizer. Im not saying he should start, play 30mpg, or we want 3 more of him on the team.

Bob is municipal bonds. The return isnt the highest, but having them in your portfolio helps optimize your overall returns. Thats what he does for the team.

Heres the bottom line. Bob is our guy. TJ wants him on the floor. I bet you a dollar every one of his teammates want him on the floor. So love the effort and the mustache. Shake your head at the mistakes. Root for the guys! Dont **** on them.

(Im gonna catch hell abt the municipal bonds thing)
Drop the mic.
