Stop!

Not reading the entire thread, so sorry if already discussed. It was mentioned during the game yesterday that he shoots around 50% at the rim. That is not good. Multiply that with turnovers while he dribbles off of his foot or can't catch a pass from a driving guard. If he would learn to pass the ball out of the post, instead of shooting or driving every time he touches the ball in the post, it would make his minutes much more valuable. Anything that is contested for him is pretty much an automatic miss and wasted possession. Nothing against the kid, but he is an offensive black hole.

1st bolded: Rob isn't the only one that struggles with this. It's not exactly a team of Jamal Tinsleys out there.

And 2nd bolded: is any missed shot a wasted possession? This is a fairly marginal shooting team.

Scoring is always great but there's also more to a possession whether it's making the other team defend for a long segment of time, getting a foul, finding something for later, etc.

And with all due respect, you're not a Big 12 coach.
People keep regurgitation this. He came as a transfer after a coach firing. I believe we were Jones only P5 school targeting him because we needed a big.

I honestly hate that he’s probably going to return next year, it’d be nice to have an open scholarship for a transfer

I’d reckon there’s a very good shot we have two open scholarships to work with for transfers next year. Not going to speculate who is leaving for obvious reasons

People don't appreciate how old our roster is and how that really helps us navigate this brutal schedule. Next year, we're gonna have a lot of young guys who know little about how hard you have to play and how physical you have to be to survive in this league, or how much you have to play for each other instead of yourself.

Robert Jones is the perfect role model for our very talented but very young players to follow.

Yeah, the turnovers are an issue for the entire team.

Forcing the contested shots and missing easy shots is the main issue. It is expected to be a miss, and everyone knows what is about to happen when he catches it in the post...turnover or missed shot that had no chance. I wish they would set up some motion for a pass out of the post instead of Rob automatically shooting it. He plays solid minutes otherwise.

I like Big Rob's effort but his flaws and repeated mistakes can get frustrating at times. A lot of these bunnies he misses he is rushing his shot or in bad position. Yesterday it felt like he was too far underneath the hoop for at least 3 of his misses. When he gets himself set and backs a guy down he seems to get a better look when he's more under control and can turn and face the basket.

Yeah, I dont really understand it either, I thought Big Rob actually had his best game since the first Tech game over 3 weeks ago. Just weird timing to be ripping on the guy.
he has ripped BRE all year.

It’s no secret I’m not a fan of Jones play but it comes pretty much exclusively from his play on the offensive end. I see what he adds on defense, but his problems on offense, in my opinion, outweigh those. If he understood his limitations and didn’t shoot almost every time he got the ball in the post, I wouldn’t dislike it so much when he was on the court. But combine the fact that he shoots exclusively within 5 ft of the basket but is shooting just 46% along with the fact that he averages 1.5 turnovers per game with limited touches and you have a major liability offensively. His lack of offensive awareness is what bothers me about his play.

I just want him to pass it out when he is double or triple teamed, and maybe not shoot when his whole body is under the basket. Is that too much to ask?

Well the records will show that he along with other previously non-Big 12 type players played in the Big 12 so I guess that will put that narrative to a test.
Having that next to your name doesn’t mean you are big 12 caliber. I mean all walk ons are big 12 players

This is exactly where I'm at other than I will say I'm a fan of his because he's a great Cyclone that works hard. He's going to play and he has his place and he contributes through his toughness and effort. But he needs to be smarter on offense. His shooting percentage is really bad for a big who only shoots within a couple feet of the rim. I think I saw it's 36% in Big12 play. Quick put backs and wide open dunks are his shots. 2-4 shots a game is where he should be most nights. A lot of those turnovers come from trying to post him up and him dribbling. His only post up should be when he has a good seal so he can just go up with it. No dribbling.

Has he contributed on a Big 12 team?

I get it: he's not the physical type that you usually see on a decent P6 team.

He's also not alone in that regard on ISU's roster.

As it stands right now, 'not a Big 12 player' is last year's 'This doesn't even look like a tourney team'.

All the complaining in the world won't get you your wishes in regards to what's currently happening for ISU basketball.
