You should see how long the courts are in Texas!
actually this is not always the case. most new gyms in iowa have 94' courts. for example in the Raccoon River,
94' courts:
Carlisle
Winterset
Ballard
North Polk
Gilbert
84' courts:
Bondurant
Boone
Carroll
adm
Bondurant is already planning on a larger gym and will be 94'.
So its really a matter if you have a newer gym or not. Lots of small schools play on small courts
basically if you have a school that is newer you will have a 94' court UNLESS there is a funding issue, space issue or your AD is a moron.
no idea why Waukee Warriors put an 84' court in.

Agree. There are some others around the state that are full length.
Back in the day (if memory serves me) Iowa City West was only school in the MVC (CR, IC, Dubuque and Waterloo schools) with 94’.
It’s a significant difference when you’re out there playing and quite an advantage for the home team.
I ran track and cross country so not out of shape by any means. When we’d go on the road and play 94’ I remember feeling gassed.
Coach would take us to one of the local colleges to practice a few days ahead of district and state tournaments to get us adjusted.
Iowa City High’s old and now their new courts are 94 as well. I also believe the new Ankeny’s and maybe Johnston as well as SEP. Basically, if schools are building a new gym, they’re doing 94. Probably the first two were the roundhouses at Marshalltown and Lincoln.
Full College and NBA are 94'. Old school high school courts are typically 84'.
An easy way to tell if a HS court is 94' or 84' is to look at the volleyball out of BOUNDS line that goes through the free-throw line.
IF its close to the free-throw line then its 94'. If it goes through the middle of the lane then its 84'
south east polk is 84' which was a stupid decision by someone. They host regional substate finals all the time.
Ankeny Cent is full and what you should do when creating a new gym (notice the out of BOUNDS line for volleyball)
It does make a difference when you are a trapping and pressing team to play on these courts.
Going back to Waukee, Waukee Warrior have a fieldhouse with rollout professional hoops and a hanging scoreboard, etc. But they have a 84' court. Why they designed that is beyond me. Just dumb.
Northwest is a much better design with a 360 feel with a 94' court.

In prehistoric days we played one of our HS games at William Penn.
I was dragging ass after about three trips up and down.
Also, the shooting background was unlike HS gyms.
It was like casting the ball toward outer space. I’m sure I would have adapted if I could play there more but as a one off hard times.
