Looking ahead to 2023, I didn't see that anyone had discussed what 2022 meant for ISU with regard to next year. Some stats I thought were of interest:
We completed 65% of our passes, 313 / 479; Opponents 59%, 190 / 322
We averaged 108 yards rushing, our opponents 107
We averaged 370 yards offense, our opponents 285.
We converted 42% of 3rd downs, opponents converted 29%
We punted 55 times, opponents 70
We averaged 32 minutes time of possession
We gave up 18 sacks, but got 26 sacks
In the Red Zone, we scored TDs 22/44 times, our opponents 22/32 times
We had 67 penalties for 550 yards, opponents 58 for 500 yards
We lost 7 fumbles, our opponents lost 8
We threw 15 interceptions, our opponents 7
Looking at most of this, one would think we did better than 4-8. We had some punts blocked which they don't show stats for, but that is like another fumble. Overall, I think once again it was turnovers that hurt us a lot. Using shotgun on short-yardage runs also hurt us, we just didn't have the line for that. Considering how good our defense was, I also think it is sad that our rushing yardage was the same as our opponents. Well, now we know where to improve.
