That is crazy how many times he has been let go (and then picked up). Got a feeling this is the end of the line.
He will obviously be really shaken and mentally not there no matter what. But the best thing to happen for him is the Cowboys winning the game. If the Bucs come back and win on a last-minute score or something, then woof I don’t envy what Maher would be feeling moving forward.

In Cleveland Art Modell clashed with Marty and demanded he hire an OC, as Marty called the plays in 1988. The Browns went through 4 QBs due to injuries and still made the playoffs! Cleveland only had 3 pro bowlers, all on the defensive side. Browns racked up 5K+ total yards on O, and in their final 6 games, scored over 20 points in five of them. They lured Don Strock out of retirement off a golf course to make a playoff run.
Marty wanted to promote his brother from special teams to OC. Art wasn't having it, so Marty left. After Marty was canned in San Diego, the Chargers were basically .500 forever. Cleveland fell off a cliff when Marty left.
Marty had only 1 season in Washington then Dan Snyder fired him. They started 0-5 and finished 8-8. Snyder apparently wanted Steve Spurrier, which didn't work out.
If I needed a head coach in 1990 and Parcells, Gibbs, and Walsh aren't available, I'm calling Marty.
