Necro bump of a weed thread from two new, first post, members so I guess I'm in. Weed > Beer. I said what I said.

I have crazy anxiety so I will only buy marijuana product from a dispensary if I’m in a medical/recreational state. Also, since I have anxiety I’m only able to use indica. Sativa strains make my mind go nuts and puts me into a panic attack. I also love learning about the different strains and what positive effects it may give, kind of like how I enjoy learning about how to brew different beers. But definitely choose marijuana over booze. Safer and a more euphoric feeling without a hangover.

I honestly can’t believe how skewed this poll is towards alcohol. Shows how much drinking is just engrained in our society.

How many hang overs have I had from smoking or taking an edible? That would be zero.

I smoke or take edibles to relax and fall asleep, I do it when going to the bar to meet people and just have a drink to socialize and not feel the need to have too many, I do it when going out hiking, I do it for all sorts of things, occasionally though. It’s not an everyday thing, and I never feel like crap later.

After being in the Jesus threads all day now I have to philosophize on which is the greater evil in the world…religion or alcohol.

I made the mistake of trying weed for the first time in Amsterdam and it went REALLY BAD. I had smoked cigarettes when I was young so I kind of expected an immediate sensation. I didn't get that immediate sensation so I kept doing it. Then about 20 minutes later I start sweating, stumble outside and throw up, and sit in a chair for the next two hours unable to move. The people there said it happens on almost a daily basis. They gave me sugar water, which didn't seem to do anything.
I think I was trying to race the Indy 500 my first time after being a spectator at the Boone speedway.

In Iowa you get judged if you don't drink alcohol.

Nothing symbolizes Iowa’s decline more than the mediocre rural white man that moved to the suburbs and becomes a bourbon aficionado while posting pics on Facebook drinking “Busch lattes”. We had a word for that in the late 90’s.

I've basically given up alcohol for weed over the past few years, I live in a legal state. I will lightly drink on social occasions, but that's it these days. No. Hangovers. Ever.

I also only use weed at night to calm me before sleep since I've suffered from insomnia forever. It's been a life changer.

Generally agree. You say, 'I don't drink' and it's met with:

A. 'Why not, did you get pulled over?'
B. 'How come, do you have a problem?'
C. 'Uh oh, can you handle being around people that are drinking?'
D. 'Your turn to be the DD, huh?'

It's none of those and I know people aren't meaning any of them condescendingly, but that's how the come across at times. I've got kids that are at the right age where I want them to see that not drinking is totally acceptable. I also don't smoke, but that's generally accepted without a line of questioning.

In todays age I think people who are first timers with marijuana don’t do enough research or don’t have friends who give them great advice on it. If you walk into a dispensary and say, “Hey I haven’t smoked in my life, but would like to try something that’s not going to make me blow up into panic the first time.” Trust me the dispensary employees are going to get you a low THC strain that isn’t going to make your body flip out like that. It’s unfortunate some newcomers go in and probably grab a 30% THC sativa the first time and they trip balls on it and it ruins it for them.

I like to pop a few edibles before heading into the theme parks or or kayaking at the springs. Its nice to be peaceful, relaxed and enjoy my day while knowing I'll be OK to drive in a few hours without a doubt.

Weed never makes you feel bad, but I’ve never found a kind that acts as a social lubricant.

I really wish I found it more fun than alcohol, but it just isn’t for a lot of people. It’s not about ingrained cultural attitudes at all.

I have pretty much cut alcohol out of my life this past year. I will still occasionally have a beer at a loccal brewery, but thats pretty much it. I don't drink at home or family gatheringas anymore. Weed has helped me tremendously this year. If i am out in a social setting I will usually have a portion of an edible, and have NA beers (they have gotten a lot better). Great going home after a night out knowing I won't have to worry about a hangover in the morning or what dump **** i did the night before.

Right, alcohol is first. Thats your true gateway drug, and in terms of addiction and acute fatality it is one of the hardest drugs out there. Its right behind crack, heroine, cocaine, and meth. Weed isn't anywhere close to those. Of course alcohol is acceptable in society so people like CNE think weed is the problem.
I realize I’m way late on this, but if I’m placing the “gateway drug” moniker on one thing, it’s caffeine. Caffeine leads to booze, etc, and society markets caffeine to minors.

Just my take.

I only do vape and I don't even need a full drag to get where I need. I'm pretty sensitive to drugs and edibles just last too long for me.

I'd like to reply because I feel a little attacked as a bourbon drinking, mediocre, rural, German white male. My phone creates infinitely long blank paragraphs when I try to reply or even make a comment. This took me 30 minutes

Interesting, my high doesnt last all that long but I usually do it at night so sleep probably has a factor in it.
