Picked up FF the last couple years and have spent quite a bit of time in the Decorah area.
The late summer/early fall of this year I'm taking my family to Yellowstone and the Tetons. On my way back with my teardrop trailer, I am planning to FF the northern part of Wyoming and Southern Montana. However, with my trailer, I have no issues hitting off road due to the build, however, I can't rock crawl with it....stay on gravel and fire roads basically which is just fine.

My question is, is the northern route the best due to stream count and proximity to roads or would middle Wyoming be better? Any suggestions on planning and route would be appreciated as I've started planning the trip. Thanks in advance. Yaz

Good for you. I have no suggestions, I just know that I've struggled with fly fishing. Only tried it a few times but it just seems like every instinct and habit I've developed with a bait-caster over the years is completely wrong with fly fishing. There are so many different things you need to be doing at once, it's tripped me up. Last time we were on the San Juan in NM casting from floats, so added the whole other element of balance into the mix, lol.

South Fork of the Snake River awesome for Fly Fishing. Big Hole, beverhead and Madison Rivers all amazing in Montana

Yeah, I know what you mean about lots going on....lol. I've done it off and on over the years a day here a day 5 years later kind of deal out west with someone elses gear. So over the last year or so, I've hit Decorah trout streams a lot which helped and spent a ton of time practicing in the back yard and hitting local ponds. By the end of last fall i was doing well(far fewer snags on back casts, faster changing flies and more catching fish) and finally was being successful and having more fun than frustration.....lol.

I love the mountains and being outside, FF is just another opportunity to enjoy being outdoors In the West.

The Trout Routes App might be helpful for you. Also, I would call and visit with state fisheries folks and local fly shops. I have found both ready to help when asked.
My fishing is mostly Driftless, Skunk River for Smallies, and some Colorado streams, so not much help on your question.

Thank you. I just bought a Benchmark Atlas for Wyoming and starting to research options for camping and fishing. I'll check out your suggestions.

I have FF in Wyoming just west of Casper. They hit as fast as you can put the line in. Great time.

We're headed out to Colorado this summer, staying right on a lake about an hour northwest of Boulder, so I'll definitely be giving it another shot.
