I'm absolutely convinced we've struggled in that building because of lack of atmosphere. It sounds crazy that a flat atmosphere on the road would hurt the visitor, but when you are used to playing in a raucous atmosphere like Hilton it has to be weird to play in silence.
I pulled it up quick when the game came on. Stub Hub was selling front row courtside seats for $7 a piece. I'm not quite sure what needs to happen, nor is it really my position to care, but an Athletic Department cant be very happy with that. What's court side Hilton? $180 vs a non marquee opponent?

Exactly, how many coaches would have lost their mind when Lipsey was tackled on the end bounds. Instead, he rallied the team around him.
The key was after that tackle and turnover after the replay showed it was pretty bad miscall the camera panned in on Lipsey and Kalscheur walking across the court to the bench. I would have loved to be able to read Tamin's lips but you could tell it wasnt crying or complaining it was more along the lines of and him Gabe saying "well we're gonna have to stop them now." Awesome.

Holmes made such a great defensive play on that OU inbound turn over. I thought for sure he fouled and they swallowed their whistle but watching the replay, some how he stayed out of the OU players cylinder.
Too bad they didn’t stay out of Tamin’s cylinder on the play before…

Oh well, all’s well that ends well.

IMO we are built to frustrate teams that like to push the ball and play with tempo.
We are, but Miles and Baugh are freaking freight trains with the ball. This is going to be a master class in foul management if we are to pull it off, because we're going to be in foul trouble 5 minutes in. I have no doubt that we're going to need Ward and Watson to play big minutes.

I won't be surprised if Ward and Watson are needed. I appreciate both, but hope it's not big minutes.

We don't have a Brockington type who can score big while consistently getting to the basket, but I think we are making much better decisions with the ball as a team. Lipsey's intelligence on driving selectively and his ball handling/distribution has helped negate what Brockington brought, even if he's not near the scorer. Osun brings athleticism and a pick and roll presence we didn't have last year.

But since we don't have a plethora of natural scores, players with size, or an abundance of athleticism, we need to manage shot selection, foul trouble, and rebounding discrepancy. As a team, we did most of those things well but Jones (who I'm not a fan of) and Holmes forced a lot of bad shots/offense, which led to misses/turnovers and lost possessions. Jones takes way too long to make his move and either gets doubled or stupidly puts the ball on the floor (which always backfires unless he does so quickly and decisively). Holmes took way too many bad shots and ill-advised shots that nearly cost the team. The rest (by and large) were great at managing their selectiveness and shot selection.

OU made a lot of lucky shots, many that were well contested with excellent defense. Blowing a huge lead is never good but it takes a lot of resolve to weather the storm and pull out a victory (especially on the road). Great win.

Yup.

I like the way we play defense but it's frustrating, at times, watching us body someone 10 feet beyond the ark or reach in on a trap. Those are dumb fouls and ones we need to eliminate in this type of game. We will already have enough fouls on drives to the basket and I'm not sure that's realistically preventable (outside of playing tough perimeter D). We are going to have to "save" on fouls elsewhere if we don't want half the team getting 4-5 fouls.

Perfect for SEC basketball. Not gonna miss it.

For nostalgic reasons I will miss it...but it was absolutely dead last night! Sad...there were some loud games played in that gym between ISU and OU! Growing up it seemed like that place was more intense than KU's "gym" was...

Did you see the replay close enough to tell if an Oklahoma player deflected it?
No, I didn't see that. It may have happened, but I never got a definitive view on it and assumed he attempted a REALLY tough shot and was way off.

AND I admit I was having a little fun at Gabe's expense. I really appreciate him and what he brings to the team, I understand you make 0% of the shotqs you don't take, and I'm aware enough to see he sometimes misses pretty big.

Doesn't make me want anything different, because he's a Cyclone and doing everything he can to represent us all well AND bring home the Ws.

Oh, his misses can be hilarious. I totally agree with you there.

TCU is a TOUGH matchup for us. Two PG's, 2 wing forwards, and a beast in Lampkin at Center.

Defensively I worry about Lipsey. Miles and Baugh are REALLY good, and Lipsey can't guard their 3 as TCU is BIG after 1-2.

40 year old John Higgins is one of the best to ever do it. Mid-50s, slowing down John Higgins guesses too much because he can't get to where he needs to be a lot of the time.

His game management skills are still elite but he has no business past regional weekend anymore.
Higgins might be slowing down but he is a hell of a lot better than most B12 refs.

I expected us to make a play. I'm over the yips. Campbell and Otz have cured my Cyclone anxiety.
I ain’t gonna lie- I was pretty worried on that last 8 seconds…I think you’re a little further along than me on the Cyclone non-anxiety scale, but I’m getting there with more wins like this.

I saw that too…King McClure was going on about how ‘loud’ it was getting and I all could think of was that the gym looked about 40% full. They’re an embarrassment- good riddance.
