NFL: ***2022 NFL Season Thread***

Now that Malik Willis is that good but sounds like the Titans are pretty much "punting" (sitting out several) on the game tonight since all that really matters is their game next week vs. Jacksonville.

Don't see the point of this... why not give your young guy game reps in a meaningless game ?

Maybe they know he's terrible and hope to find someone that stands a prayer at winning next weekend.
Don't think I recall a situation like this where the next to last week almost does not matter for 2 teams since the H2H in the final week determines the division champion and likely the only playoff spot. A bunch of crazy scenarios out there for WC possibilities, but many require multiple losses by multiple teams.

Cousins has 2 extreme outlier games, and a third well above the rest bolstering his stats. Right now, he's basically Derek Carr of last year with an offense that doesn't put the ball on the ground as much and has a defense that is better at taking it away. They're +6 in turnovers and the defense ranks 8th in takeaways. That's typically how you win more one score games than not.
Cousins was money in late game drives last year too. But the defense faltered again and again when it counted. Vikings D is tied for 30th in y/p and were 27th last year. They have given up the 6th and 9th most points in the league the past two years.

The Vikings are purely an offensive team. This year they are absolutely handing the keys to Cousins and saying you got JJ, Cook and Hockenson, go win the game. And that’s what’s happening. And it mostly happened last year, but either Cook fumbles and defensive giving up game winning drives happened game after games.

Now Cousins and Dak are in the position of needing to come through in the playoffs. But people need to face the fact that the Vikings are completely dependent on their passing game to go win games and they are 11-3.

If Purdy keeps playing well, I bet the Niners could get a bunch of draft picks for Lance from someone like the Colts, Commanders, or Raiders.

I'm not sure about that. He doesn't have a ton of game film logged, and what there is, isn't particularly thrilling. Plus he's been hurt. Not sure that anyone is going to pay a premium for that, considering there are 3-4 Qbs that will be taken in the first round, and it looks like Carr will hit free agency, as well.

A bunch might be a stretch. He’s played ok in a couple games, poorly in a few. He basically has one incredible season of FCS under his belt. I think it’s safe to say the 9ers are not going to recoup their picks.

They'd be lucky to get back a single 1st rounder.

I think people see a lot of yards given up and sell the defense short. They were a big part of at least 3 of Kirk's game winning drive games where they held the opposing team scoreless for almost a quarter or more, and they kept both the Colts and Bills out of FG range in the OT games.

The picks are a sunken cost. If Lance becomes the back up then, that's what he is. Having two (potentially) talented QBs on cheap contracts would be very favorable.

The defense is pretty good at getting TOs. But ultimately they give up a ton of yards and points. That doesn’t mean they haven’t had some big moments. Any time a team is 11-3 there are going to be some big plays made by even a bad unit. Now, the injuries at CB have really hurt, and hopefully Evans, Dantzler and Pat P can all be healthy come playoff time.

I think people are going to bend over backwards to avoid accepting the fact that the team is winning because of Cousins and not in spite of him. He’s not elite, but he’s now had two seasons where his performance in clutch drives has been incredible. Last year the defense constantly blew those go ahead drives. This year they are stepping up and getting a key stop or TO when needed.
