Tuesday OT: a business from your childhood that is extinct

Mr. Beef - St. Charles, IL. Their gyros were amazing. And they have you a ton of it. Always had to order an extra pita because the one they gave you wasn’t big enough to hold all the meat.

Younkers was an Iowa staple until 7-8 years ago.

I would also say K Mart and it's blue light specials. Woolworth 5 & D along with their cafeteria.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any local shoe stores.

I think Emerhoffs is still going strong in Ames.
I used to go to Lazy M's.

I assume Browns is kind of a "local" small chain.

Some of you long time Ames residents might know this one. Boyd's dairy. Early 80s, they still did milk delivery in those glass bottles. My parents turn of the century house has a milk box like the picture below and we got weekly delivery of milk from them. Boyd's was on Hayward and later just downtown for a few years before they closed up. Not surprisingly, they had the most amazing ice cream. Butterscotch malts were my primary go to.

Found an article on them

Emerhoffs is the epitome of a local family-owned business. I haven’t bought shoes anywhere else in years.

One of my good friends, Yvonne, is from there. Love that town. Still have a Mr. Beef in the city. Really great food.

Yes, my mom was a regular at the K Mart layaway department.
