Disagree there. The general idea of football is a simple concept that most are familiar with. Team needs to get ball to a certain spot. Maybe to fully understand the sport, I’d agree football has a ton of little things. But wrestling is much harder for a casual fan to tell who is winning or losing unless it’s clear domination

Wrestling is one of the simplest sports imaginable. There are only ~5 variables based on two principles: hips and back.
Riding time
Escape
Takedown
Reversal
Near fall/Pin
Then team/dual scoring isn't far off from volleyball or tennis. Where there's match, but then "set" etc.
Maybe you're saying, football is simply "get the ball past that line", but I don't think that takes into account Offense/Defense/Punting/Field goals/Extra points/Downs/Turnovers/Significantly more penalties and rule complexity.
