Good for them. How’s this new redshirt rule work? They can wrestle a dual or two and not burn anything right? If they can, might be a good opportunity against LR.

This rule is so confusing.

Way I understand it is they can wrestle in up to 5 events and preserve their redshirt. Anytime they wrestle first semester, it must be attached. So if a freshman were to wrestle in the Cyclone Open, that would count as 1 of their 5 events. The one thing I am not sure on is if this weekend counts as 1 event or if each dual is a separate event (for example, if Swiderski wrestles in all 3 duals, does that count as 1 event for him or 3).

This rule is so confusing.

Freshmen can wrestle five regular-season dates attached without counting it as a burned season.

They cannot wrestle unattached during the first semester.

The extra trick to the new rule is that schools are still limited on number of competition dates, and any event with 7+ attached wrestlers counts as one date.

So if they want to send a bunch of freshmen to the UNI Open in December (first semester), those guys have to wrestle attached. And ISU can only send 6 attached wrestlers, otherwise it counts against the team's total number of dates.

Just listened to Dresser talk about the redshirt rule on the Potentially Dangerous podcast. Interesting to hear how the program plans to send wrestlers to different tournaments in the first semester.
