Replacing Campbell isn't the solution. Campbell making changes to a few coaches is the solution. Campbell not doing that with same results next year .... then forget what I said in first sentence.

Agreed. We have more non-Mt. Union/Toledo blood on the defensive side of the ball and it's obviously shown that an outside perspective can help. Time to get some fresh insight beyond the CMC/Manning/Myers lineage into the offense.

That's a good breakdown. Venables is an ace of a defensive coach, and Manning was outclassed all game.

I think the big knock on Myers though is that the O line has gotten worse throughout the season. It also looks like it's a cluster where on multiple plays (according to Bruns) Simmons and Downing were just not blocking guys, look disinterested, and had the wrong assignment/technique. Not good.

I'm intrigued for Jake Remsburg RT next year. He was a stud in 2020 and a big piece in the Fiesta Bowl game. He doesn't look in game shape right now and is out of sorts. I think he can have a big bounceback because we have seen him play really well in the past.
Go back to the 2019 game threads and you will see the exact same commentary about the OL. Hall/Purdy covered up the issue somewhat for 2020/2021, and now that there isn't experienced talent at those skill positions to mask the OL problems, the OL issue is in plain sight. For that matter, pretty much the same things were being said about Manning as well back then. No corrections...

Yes there is.

Payback.

He deserves public embarrassment for the awful, underachieving, and dull offenses he has made Cyclone fans endure for years now.

Yikes.

Manning has sucked and should be replaced, but I'd think a lot less of Campbell (or anyone else in a management role) if this was how he operated. Make the business decision and move on. No need to publicly embarrass someone, and no one would want to come into that situation either.

The Camping World Bowl in 2019 is the textbook example of trying to do the same thing on offense all game without any adjustments.

He should have never brought him back.

Plenty of coaches are fired in season to get the team and staff focused.

Think there wouldn't be a reaction if Manning was let go?

Instead, more gruel. Two weeks to prepare, and no noticeable changes or improvement.

Don't you remember? We were just so physically outmatched! That was the problem.

Meanwhile ISU had multiple NFL players playing in that game.

The last two games of that season were beyond turds. It was really bizarre.

Those NFL guys were all sophomores at the time playing against a bunch of guys who did go to the NFL that year. Not two years later, that year.

That game was actually the reason why we went and got Andrews, which was and has been a great improvement overall.

There needs to be change, and it’s fine to be upset but for crying out loud take a breather. The hyperbole is ridiculous.

Firing people midseason throws red meat to the fanbase but rarely does a whole lot to change results.

And your demand that someone be publicly embarrassed is beyond stupid.

Well, we are just Hawkeye trolls I guess for wanting to see Iowa State beat Norte Dame in a rare match up opportunity.

But here is what we got that game:

Fumble on punt return
Fumble
Punt
Field Goal
Downs
Field Goal
Punt
Punt
Field Goal
Punt
Downs
Punt

For some inexplicable reason the defense was overwhelmed this game too.....I am not sure why...physically outmatched there as well?

Campbell must make changes on the offensive side of the ball, OL coach and OC should be shown the door at the end of the season, followed by overpaying if we have to, and bring in the best special teams coach that we can get.

If at least those changes are not made by next season, and we continue to look this way another year, a lot of fans are going to bail, and we will be back to selling out only the Iowa game, and then falling attendance the rest of the season.

If he does fire manning, which I don’t think he will, he will hire from within. That’s what he does and has shown that. Not sure who that guy would be but that’s who would get the job, most likely.

Dude you do realize that sometimes your team just loses to a good team right? For crying out loud we’re talking about a 10-2 Notre Dame team. They were flat out better and it obviously showed.

Still acting like manning is doing things on his own.

That Kansas State game was horrific. That 10-point loss felt like one of Snyder's many beat downs for some reason. But don't despair it was another close loss!!!

That's total ********. They tried something different. They tried going under center. They tried huddling up. They tried simplifying reads.

Just because the end result was virtually the same does not mean the journey was.

Please also tell us about all of the OCs who have been fired this year and what their success was relative to the current year of output. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess Manning is calling the exact game Campbell wants called. Manning's track record is pretty damn solid at this point in time. This year is by no means good...but the last few years have been pretty damn good.

Matt Campbell doesn't want the Texas Tech/Oklahoma/etc. offenses of scoring 45 and hoping to only give up 42. He shouldn't want that because we likely can't win playing that way. He wants us to give up 20 and score 24 by playing keep away from high octane offenses. Again...not good this year...but his track record is pretty damn good.

Long story short...Matt Campbell has had a pretty solid tenure at Iowa State and I would guess he knows a bit more about how he wants his program to look than some ass clowns on a message board. His way has yielded a program that isn't a national embarrassment so whatever he feels like doing should be a-ok with the fans.
