NFL: ***2022 NFL Season Thread***

LOL. Playing CMC late in a 17 point game is the epitome of stupid given his injury history.

They're the type of team that will win 12-13 games and **** the bed in the playoffs. Bookmark this post. They are NOT going to the NFC title game.
And for the first year of O'Connell's tenure, I'll be very happy with that. The term they kept tossing around in the off-season was "competitive rebuild" and to me, a division win and a home playoff game more than achieves that goal.

I'm under no illusions that this is a Super bowl team, but I'm also not going to lose sleep over the way the season might end. I'm just going to enjoy each week for what it is.

6-1 and on top of the division is a fine enough place to be, for now.

Not much the Packers can do to stop that

Rough news for Watson. Feel for the guy. Not going to do much to change the narrative that he's brittle.

Dumb, dumb play by Walker. Not sure what he was thinking. That coach didn't do anything to him

Agreed.

I will also say, the Vikings are going to have to resign Cousins after this season. Which I’m okay with. We aren’t getting anyone better. Give him a 2 year deal if he gets us to the playoffs.

The Vikings should make the playoffs easily at this point (barring something catastrophic happening). They are head and shoulders ahead of everyone in that division.

Looking at their schedule, I think the Vikings should at the very least go 11-6. But it’s the Vikings and crazier **** has happened. If Cousins gets injured we are royally ******.

They don't have to re-sign him after this season. His current contract runs through the 2025 season, although the last two years are void years, so it's very unlikely he'll play them on the current deal. That said, his cap number next year is $36 million, so they may decide to try to extend him, to get that number down, to pay Jefferson and hopefully make some noise in free agency.

They are going to have to bring him back. We don’t have a QB we are developing. I don’t know what QB we would go out and try to get or trade for. Wilfs will push for him to be back.

After tonight they’re going to have a what 4 game lead over the next team in the nfc central plus they’ve beaten each of those teams once already? Cousins isn’t anything extravagant. If he goes down you just need someone to manage (hand off to cook and mattison and throw it to Jefferson) and you can coast in

It's not a matter of whether they want to or not. It would be almost impossible for them to part ways with Cousins after this season, given his contract situation. If they cut him, he'd cost almost $50 million in dead money. They're not going to hamstring their new coach, coming off of what looks to be a relatively successful season, by tying up a quarter of the cap in a quarterback who isn't even on the team. If they decide they want to move on from Cousins, they won't extend him this off-season, and then cut him after the 2023 season.
