Can we talk about Michigan's noncon schedule?

It will be interesting what impact NIL and 12 playoff teams have in recruiting.

Instead of all the elite kids going to OSU, Bama, Georgia, ND and OU because they seem to be in the playoff every year. Do elite kids go to other schools because of immediate PT and NIL money.

I think that, but then see the ESPN story yesterday that Texas spent like $600k on a recruiting weekend for 9 prospects.
The effect of NIL is already providing some balance in terms of getting top talent. All those 5 stars A&M got are not going to bama and Georgia. The five stars miami, Louisville, tenn, usc, etc hey are less depth of talent at the top. Ewers leaving OSU and immediately being a player at texas is balance. Georgia looks like a monster again but bama, OSU and Clemson look vulnerable

Might have to defend Michigan a little here. True, no big time opponents, but the SEC teams do the same thing. Also, the schedules usually are made years in advance. I don't know when Michigan set up the games but Hawaii and especially CSU were solid programs 5 years ago.

FWIW, the S.E.C. requires a P5 OOC game.

So now they could play nine P5 teams. The Big10, Big12 & Pac12 play 9 conference games and most play another non-con P5. So, ten P5 games.

IMO, part of the playoff criteria should be playing at least 10 P5 games. Don't tell me that the SEC is too tough to play 10 P5 games. A&M lost to App State and Mizzou got blitzed by KSU.

What happened to the rule you have to play a P5 team?

5/10 years later, no one cares about the teams you defeated, its that you won 10/12 games. EIU has made a living with schedules just like this.

I agree. The more P5 games the better. However, I do think playing 8 conference games + 1 P5 OOC (SEC) is better than playing 9 conference games and 0 P5 OOC (Michigan this year), just because the 1 extra game is against a team from a different conference outside of the comfort zone so to speak. To be fair to Michigan, they normally do play a P5 OOC game with their 9 game B1G schedule. Just not this year or next year.

I am fine with Michigan (or any school) not playing a 10th P5 game.

But the playoff committee needs to emphasize that SOS is a main criteria when selecting teams that don't win their CCG.

A P5 Conference Champ with the same record as a non Champ should get a bid.

If there are non-champs with same record, then non-con SOS should be the next filter.

That slate was weak-on-paper before season, even worse in reality. Hawai'i might be the worst D-1 this year. Colorado State lost to Middle Tennessee. UConn is UConn.

U-M in recent history has had some weaklings, but almost every season at least one from a P5 league or the occasional Notre Dame.

Michigan might go 3-0 vs. even a modest non-con anyway, but there should be consideration in CFP rank for having SUCH a bad set of opponents. Not sure how much weight, but some.
There is a consideration, and Michigan might very well get docked for playing such a Snyder like non-con. We'll have to see how everything shakes out.

But the B1G is not looking great. It's extremely top heavy. So their SOS is basically going to suck all season long.
