*** Official SEMO vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Defense playing undisciplined, especially at linebacker, and can't tackle, our only offense seems to be Hutch. Definitely going to be a struggle when we step up competition.

Only 20 rushing yards????? I would have thought that we should hit that number on the first drive...
We haven't tried. I mean we haven't been averaging 10 yards a pop but what, 6-8 attempts?

Reasons besides Dekkers I think the start is better than in the past

- young kickers look good other than the punter understanding to kick the ball faster.
- offense looks more dynamic but we need to try to run the ball
- defense looks slow but we did lose 2/3 LB's, 2/3 D-line and some shuffling in the secondary.

So about all those people saying don't worry about slow September starts because SEMO is a different level of bad....
Let's hope that they are much improved because they had a hard time scoring on D3 teams last season. I think that they didn't get even a first down against Mizzou until it was 45-0 and the waterboy was playing Linebacker....

Not over yet and if ISU gets timid this will look familiar. I like ISU getting out on offense though.

Usually they improve in the second half, lets see what happens. they seem very slow

We've scored 21 points with a first time starting QB.
And as bad as the defense has looked - we gave up 7 points on a non-short field to a team that scored 28 on Missouri.

Comparatively, this is as fast as an Iowa State team has played in an opener since... IDK.

16-10 Win vs. Northern Iowa
14-31 loss to Lousiana
29-26 3OT win vs. UNI
3-13 loss to Iowa in Week 2

We're on pace to win 42-20. Easily the best opener of the Campbell era. That doesn't mean the defensive secondary hasn't looked brutal.

But this has still been the best overall first half in the Campbell era since 2017 when we won 42-24 over UNI.

And this, in part, is why we should play the fluffiest team we can find in week 1 every year! We want to be learning/adjusting against a team where 3-4 bad mistakes won't cost us the game.

I like not running the ball today. It’s a good day to get Dekkers in the passing flow.
Yeah, it honestly does feel like Campbell's mentality has shifted and they're using this more like a tune-up game than trying the gameplan they'll likely be using later down the road.

At this point, a final score of 42-10 or better will make me feel fine. If we can’t match or improve on the offensive production from the first half with SEMO getting worn down, and if the D can’t do the typical Heacock improvements…eek.

CMC must not want to show squawks the running game we might have

I'd like to see us ride Norton this half. He's been the best back, in a half with limited rushing attempts.

I’d say giving up 246 yards in a half to SEMO is…bad.
