Middle of the Midwest
I don't know about Urban, but I don't see Nebraska as a dead end, middle of nowhere hopeless job. They still have a huge stadium with great facilities. They're the only FBS school in the state and get all the coverage and fan support. They still have B10 money. They are not in a talent rich area and will never be what they were in the 90's, but they can easily be what iowa or ISU has been the past few years if they hire the right coach.

I'm kind of torn, as I grew up hating Nebraska and despised their fans coming to Ames to watch them beat us down. Plus I don't want them coming into Iowa and beating us for recruits. But I also wouldn't mind seeing them (or us for that matter) beat the hawks once in awhile. Iowa has gotten fat off of schools that can't get out of their own way. Us included. Seems like all they have to do most games is just run the ball into the line, punt and wait for the other team to eventually make a mistake. And ISU, Nebraska, Minnesota are all happy to oblige.

Re: that 2nd paragraph . . .

I think the ideal would be if Nebraska gets a little better but then just stays there at that level forever. Constantly thinking they are on the verge of greatness, never actually attaining it. Going somewhere between 5-7 and 7-5 every year; missing bowl games some years, making minor bowl games other years. Changing coaches every 4 years because that's "not good enough" while paying $$$ to fire coaches. Beating Iowa every 3 years or so to keep the Hawks humble. They might snag a highly rated recruit from the state of Iowa now and then, but not enough to be a threat to our recruiting.

A constant groove of mediocrity - nothing special.

That sounds amazing to me.

Article was a poor attempt at humor by a hawk fan. I still think Nebraska can turn things around, just not with Frost, and certainly not into a national juggernaut. The resources for the program are there with revenue.

Maybe they can get to where Iowa is with a few 10+ win seasons every 10-12 years.
2 Big 10 schools with really strong runs the last 15 were Michigan State and Wisconsin. Each had 7 10+ win seasons. A really fantastic stretch for both programs. Might have to do with Michigan floundering for a lot of those years though.

Nebraska had a mountain of advantages regionally for decades that are never going to return.
-Everyone else for 500+ miles(and most all the Big 8) was a non factor in the 60's and most of the 70s except for OU. Helped NU get on solid ground as a winning program.
-Nebraska had a revolutionary strength and conditioning program in the 70s moving forward.
-Unlimited scholarships for a long stretch.
-Once established as a top program in the region, they dominated TV appearances in the 70s/80s with fewer networks and games broadcast, furthering their brand.
-Attained strong walk on program as players would get scholarships eventually, instead of playing elsewhere on scholarship.

By the early 2000s TV deals expanded greatly and every program had exposure. Sports supplementation and advanced strength training were a priority for all programs. Scholarship limits in the mid 90s caught up with Nebraska a few years later. Probably some other issues I'm not even thinking about had changed the landscape drastically.

Rumor around the Jester Park Golf Course today was Ole Finger Guns Urban Meyer to be the next Nebraska football coach.

Old Finger Guns.

I'm going to find a way to borrow this and use it.

I disagree with the OP. I don't want Campbell for UNL. There are three other coaches at least, in the Big 12, that I would prefer.
Cool.

How many of those do you think Nebraska has a legit shot of landing, should they choose them?
