Will Scott Frost make it til

They still have some advantages. They are the only school in the state, they have a huge fan base that will donate like crazy if they start winning, they are in one of the only 2 conferences that will make serious money. Surprisingly NUs staff has been terrible. If they hire the right coach they will be winning again. Not at the rate they did at their prime but they can be pretty good.
No doubt they can be a solid 9-3 team. I’d bet my life they are never a perennial top 5 team ever again.

The 8:00 minute mark in all its glory. It should really be posted multiple times in any Nebraska-related thread, or maybe just every thread regardless.

It's kind of funny--B1G fans still want to think that the reason NE isn't any good is because they moved conferences. I was out with some friends yesterday who are WI fans and I had to explain to them about how Nebraska as a program never really recovered after that decimation in 2001, and while they still had some decent teams throughout the 2000s, they were never NEBRASKA again.

That was also about the time that partial qualifiers were completely gone. The big 12 phased them out, they didn’t cut them off immediately.

It is interesting how Osborne stepped down shorty after the rule change.

Also Osborne was AD at Nebraska when they moved to the B1G. I think a lot of the animosity in the 90s contributed to the hate of Texas and the breakup of the conference later on.

What's annoying is they going to be all over Campbell, but Nebraska is one of the worst jobs in the country now, nobody wants that job.
Campbell will never sign on with an AD like Alberts who meddles with coaching hires. The new guys are no better than the old guys, but it makes it look like he has the magic fix.

Many of the huge studs that come out of JUCOs were partial or non qualifiers also. Kansas has a huge JUCO system, why I think the vampire succeeded as well ad he did at KState. He was willing to embrace that and in a small town he could control the situations more.

I agree with that. I think only the SEC, Ohio State & possibly USC have that potential. If Nebraska makes the right hire they could win 7-11 games a year and be in bowls every year. They could have the occasional year where they are a player. It won't be what they were but let's be honest they lost that long before they even left for the Big 10.

It comes down to schedule now too. They are supposedly getting rid of divisions or just scheduling 9 of 15 teams.

Nebraska will never again reach the heights it had before in the 90's, because it now has lost all the advantages the school had then.
Nebraska was the first school to really get into all the players lifting, and without a doubt many were on steroids. Now every program has an up-to-date weight room, and the players are being tested for illegal substances.

The days of bringing in Prop 48 players are also now gone, and no school profited from the practice more than Nebraska. Throw in an unlimited walk-on program allowed them to keep bringing in players that they did not have to put on scholarship until they proved themselves.

Finally, they are missing the recruiting of the state of Texas, no state close by has the sheer number of quality recruits as Texas, and during their national championship runs, the roster was made up with about 20% of the players from Texas. Few of those kids now even bothering giving Nebraska a second look now, because they never play in the state of Texas, allowing those kids friends and family to come and see them with ease.

Frost is a horrible coach, and totally in over his head, but unless they can bring in the next Saban or someone like that, Nebraska will never again be the power they were.

Nebraska may have lost ties to Texas when they left the Big XII but they gained Ohio. While there may not be as much high level talent in Ohio as Texas, there are far fewer in state power conference teams competing for that talent. Plus now they are going to get California. I don't think recruiting ties to areas that are not adjoining states will be the reason they don't succeed.

I realize that, but they are being bought up and most schools aren't going to have someone step up to do that when the team is as bad as it is. In college football it all comes down to the coaching staff. Look at Iowa State and what the staff has done for you guys. Now take Nebraska's potential to raise serious money and imagine what they could do with a really good coaching staff. I'm not saying they will win multiple NCs again but there's no reason they can't win consistently and be a player in the Big 10. They have to make the right hire and so far they haven't been able to do that.
They are limited. Frankly the whole B10 minus OSU is probably limited due to demographics. I think Nebraska could get to Wisconsin and Iowa level at some point though with the right hire.

What is there population - 1.8 million people??

The world has changed for them from no steroid testing, unlimited prop 48 enrollees, uneven revenue sharing, and a college and state culture that turned their head to unsavory characters. Welcome to reality vs what u thought was reality.

Don't forget being able to stash guys on the track team and counting them against track schollies instead of football.

He’s gone unless they end up having a good season. They never should have fired Bo Pelini. The fan base/school think they should be at the level of Alabama. Delusional and the worst fanbase I’ve ever been around.

So, you've never been around Iowa fans? At least Nebraska won some titles in the 90's and played for one in 2000 (i think?). Iowa hasn't won jack **** and they act just as bad.

from reddit:

scott frost is 15-30
BP was fired with a 67-27 record

if frost won his next 50 games in a row he would still have a worse record than BP.

It’s fun to read the coaches who they are naming. It should be a thread that is titled “Name a Coach that will never coach at Nebraska”

There is a lot of talk of getting Urban Meyer there ‘even for a couple years’ to turn it all around.

At no point did anyone say that Urban is ‘gross’ and we shouldn’t go that direction.
