20 years ago today...

Growing up in KC, its one of the first games Iowa State games I remember watching in person. Tailgated all day with family and Florida State friends. I was a big Miami fan as a kid so the childhood hate was doubled against the seminoles. ISU chants before and after the game were electric. And of course, he was in.

Anyone remember that big fat dude dancing in the upper deck with his shirt off? They kept putting him on the big screen?? Always wondered what happen to that guy..

We called him AVALANCHE!!!

it was so loud, I remembered thinking "what is this place like when 100% full for a Chiefs game?!?!"

An aside: Such a weird schedule - 13-game regular season, with two games before Sept. 1. Spanned three full months (92 days, inclusive) - one bye week.

(We're all aware of the bipolar particulars, I won't go there in this thread...)
It was a kick off classic which allowed you to play the extra game. It was a nice payday for basically a home game. And by nice payday I'm referring to back when a million dollars was a lot of money.

He was in.

Full game:

I was a sophomore in High school, and this is only the 3rd time I've said this in my life (2014 being the first).... I feel old.

I can't tell you how many times I have watched this game over the years, and this was the year I went from casual to a pretty hardcore football fan. Despite how it ended, I felt like it was one our greatest years:

Florida State
Beating both Iowa and Nebraska
The Run
#9 ranking

Highlights:

I was there sitting near the goal line. He was in…but that doesn’t mean we win the game. This was by far one of the most painful seasons to go through…the bowl game was just plain ugly.

Great crowd. I lost my voice for 4 days and my liver stopped functioning for 4 weeks.

Seneca really was touched by god that second half, amazing performance. Beautiful to watch.

This is true. I believe McCarney said after the game that they had already decided to go for 2 if they scored and the play they had queued up was the one that got stuffed on the last play of the game. That doesn't mean that if they were running it on the high of having just scored and FSU had that letdown of having just given up the score the result of that play might have been different but a win wasn't a foregone conclusion.

That being said it sure would have been nice to have had the chance to find out...

If you watch a slow motion replay, he never stepped out along the sidelines. The closest he got, there was still a tiny strip of green between his shoe and the sideline. The bigger question from that angle is whether the ball got inside the pylon before he was pushed out.

From the other angle, it sure looks like he got the ball inside the pylon. Even if he didn’t, he was at most an inch or two outside. I think he was in.

On the final play, our offensive line got destroyed and Seneca waited just a fraction of a second too long to make his decision to keep it and cut up. The defender for FSU made a great play.

Freshman year in the dorm, watching the game on the TV in the lounge. It seemed like a big deal to just be able to see a game on TV!
