In the almost 50 years that I have been a fan of Iowa State Football, we have been at a significant disadvantage at the QB position most seasons. Purdy changed that. We need Dekkers to be a star.

I never thought we would have a respectable DL and look at us now!I still can’t believe I actually bought into that. I’m convinced I will never see a good o-line or secondary as long as I live
Thank you, BrentDekkers is going to be a stud. End of story. Perhaps we overlooked him because he’s gotten so much pub in the off-season and well-deserved at that. As someone put it to me last week, “If he has the year we think he will, the big dogs will be calling trying to poach him.”
In the last 50 years, the best Gopher QB has probably been Adam Weber or Cory Sauter. You're not wrong but just think about how bad that is.In the almost 50 years that I have been a fan of Iowa State Football, we have been at a significant disadvantage at the QB position most seasons. I have been a cognizant fan for over 25 years. In that span, I can only think of 4 QBs at ISU who could consistently put the team on their back and compete with just about anyone: Sage, Seneca (sans the OU game in 2002) Bret and Brock. Austin had some good games, but the Big 12 was the gunslinging league while he was under center, and he/ISU's offense was not up to par at the time. Yes, in general QB has not been good. From 2010-2017 it was Cleveland Browns bad. I don't want to go back to those days.In the almost 50 years that I have been a fan of Iowa State Football, we have been at a significant disadvantage at the QB position most seasons. Yes, that is certainly some perspective. Iowa State, while not a QB gold mine, has certainly not been bottom barrel bad by any means. I would be pretty hard pressed to recall a Kansas QB not named Todd Reesing. In the last 50 years, the best Gopher QB has probably been Adam Weber or Cory Sauter. Hunter is almost as good of a name for a southern QB as Stetson.Oh boy.
Now we're going to have a 'Dekkers to SEC school' thread before August.
It's probably pretty telling about Kansas if my follow-up question is," Who's Todd Reesing?"Yes, that is certainly some perspective. The guy who helped Mark Mangino put KU football on the map (briefly) in the mid 00s.It's probably pretty telling about Kansas if my follow-up question is," Who's Todd Reesing?"
There's a lot more options to step up at RB than QB, it could easily be Norton or Sanders that takes "breaks out" at the RB positionBetter be Jirehl Brock or Dekkers gonna have a lot of pressure.

I just listened to @ChrisMWilliams on with Miller and he picked Dekkers and it was like drinking a nice Four Roses single barrel and here you show up with a bottle of Pappy Van Winkel.Dekkers is going to be a stud. All fine and good, and I am coming to terms with the realistic possibility of a true RBBC approach by the staff this year. There are a lot of guys who can tote it, but if I had to put my money where my mouth is and predict one of these guys to become a 'bellcow', it would be Brock. Campbell has not historically been a RBBC guy either, so I can picture a world too, where it starts out RBBC and then one guy kind of runs away with it after the first 4 or 5 games. Brock is the veteran of the group, so I hope he gets every chance to go and 'break out'.There's a lot more options to step up at RB than QB, it could easily be Norton or Sanders that takes "breaks out" at the RB position
Hopefully. Former 4-star guy going into his redshirt junior season. Hasn't seen much playing time in his career yet. Here’s one for you: Blake Peterson
I think Dmitri Stanley is more than capable of contributing to the effort to free up X. Not to minimize Noel, but Stanley and the other newcomer WRs this year are the reasons I wouldn't go with Noel as my candidate for breakout player. He steps up, the pressure moves off of and opens the door wider for X to get friendly defensive looks.
Also, I talked to briefly Jaylin earlier this summer. He has some serious and genuine drive to be great. He’s a really, really solid and likable kid.
Best overall group does not equal we'll be fine without Hall. The proof is in the pudding and no one, including the coaches, will know how good anyone is until we see how they perform on Saturday.CMC literally said this is the best RB group he's ever coached with Brock leading the charge. Not sure what more could be said.
Where was Blake Peterson ever rated a four-star guy? 247 has him at three stars as does Rivals.Hopefully. Former 4-star guy going into his redshirt junior season. Hasn't seen much playing time in his career yet.
