Blake Purchase Commitment Question

It is ridiculous- but it’s the world we’re in. If we want to be competitive, we have to do more to attract and retain players. The collective is to retain players and to show them what we can do for them once they’re here.

All fans who are able need to get on board with this- just think of it like everything else: costs have gone up and if you want to continue to enjoy a quality product like CMC is producing, you have to pay more for it. This is life and we need to get with it.
I’d pay double for season ticket prices and NCC donations so it’s not about paying more. It’s about giving directly to these kids. Will never do that. Understand others will and that’s fine.

That’s like saying a woman never picks a guy because he has money.
It's always about true love...

Dude- you posted my thoughts exactly on this! I see all these rough guys in Texas, with all their money and super hot wives. I know they’re together for his personality.

I was trying to stay on point- but you drove the bus and I was happy to get on!

Fair enough and I respect you not wanting to pay the athletes. BUT- it’s here. We can either get on board now or we might as well go join the Mountain West with the PAC 12 leftovers in 3 years.

There is way too much “the sky is falling” fear mongering on here. There are three camps of donors. 1. Those that give to the NCC to support the athletic dept in general. 2. Those that give to the new programs that pay athletes in the premium sports. 3. Those that fall into both camps.

Every single one of you in these three camps are to be applauded for supporting ISU athletics.

Where it saves us some is when we talk about high quality 3 stars, or the occasional 4 star even...... those guys don't command big checks.

But I do see your broader point.

What I want to know is when will the NCAA sack up and actually tack on some rules with this, b/c we need them. For instance - if you get a big bonus $ for signing out of high school, is it reasonable to say that should be a 2 year commitment to stay at that school? I don't think that's unreasonable.

OR - bring back a sit out type rule where if you leave you have to miss a full season or half a season. We can't have a universe where coaches invest two years to recruit high school prospects, and then kids efing leave after 1 year. That's a joke. Its especially joke when a Spencer Rattler gets paid massively and then ups and leaves after a few months at OU.

In the pros when you get PAID, you have stay and play with one club to a contract's stipulations. College now needs similar guard rails. You can't have a system where it's pros without contracts.

Actually, I find that I don’t mind whatsoever if the SEC and B1G teams frivolously throw their money away.

I believe the football team also has a program in place where if a student athlete graduates from ISU and gets a degree, they will give that athlete $25k. I don’t know all of the details around the program but it’s something like that

It's for all student-athletes.

The point I was trying to make is that saying we don't want someone who is only in it for the money is stupid. If he chooses Iowa State, it might be about the money, but it would also be about the coaches.

And I still stand by that no player is going to choose a school where they hate all the coaches and hate the school just because they offered the most money.

Because there are so many schools and coaches that are hatable.

Right, which is why it is stupid for someone to claim it is all about the money. A recruit might have 5 or 10 schools that they think they would be happy and successful at. Money may be the deciding factor, but thinking that recruit isn't a team player is just idiotic.

I think you missed my sarcasm.

This thread is reminding me why there’s better discussions about these things elsewhere.
