I don't have an answer other than a hot air balloonist I know complained to me that they have been unable to fly as much as they used to due to higher winds.

Thank you for not saying “heavy winds.” I keep hearing that from TV meteorologists and I think even the NWS, and it just drives me batty. Winds aren’t “heavy” in the sense of rain or snow falling heavily; winds can be high, or strong, or damaging … but “heavy”? To me it’s like saying “heavy fog” or “heavy lightning” or “heavy amounts of sunshine.” :D

How do you feel about "garden variety thunderstorms"?

If you’re really asking, ”garden variety” is a commonly used idiom for “common“ or “typical,” so that doesn’t bother me. :D

By that standard, heavy often refers to the amount of force being applied, which would also reflect the force being applied by the wind.

So, no such thing either as heavy breathing? I’m definitely relieved;)

It's absolutely gorgeous out right now. Got some steaks on the grill and a cold beer in my hand.

Agreed. Just took advantage of the chance to go for a nice walk, nice to be able to do that and not come back completely drenched.

Ooo I just thought of one just for you “heavy” cleared for TO. Do you still remember the wait times for clearing something behind a heavy?
I’ve purged so much of that info out of my head since I retired … it’s been 3 1/2 years now, wow. Three minutes, I think?

Never snuck out to the end of the runway to get blown around up in the air by the wake like Cusack and Billy Bob did in Pushing Tin, either. :D

On this date in 1995 the midwest was in the throws of one of it's worst heat waves. July 12-15 was the worst in Iowa. On this date in Sioux City it was 108 at 6pm. Cedar Rapids had a heat index of 131 and most of the state had heat indexes over 120.

In Chicago about 700 died from the heat along with many others in larger midwest cities.

I remember a lot of livestock dying too. Mostly poultry but quite a few hogs also. It took a long time for the rendering plants to catch up. I think a lot of carcasses just ended up getting buried.
