Last year I had a punk get in my sons face at the end of the game. My 14 year old was just sitting there. I turned to see what was happening and when he saw me he took off up the steps. They are a confident group when they are bigger or have larger numbers even in Ames.
I've been to the last 4 games in Iowa City. I always sit in the Iowa State visitor section but that is basically a couple rows spread throughout the stadium now. I've never had total horror stories like some, but expect to hear obscenities' thrown your way.
And if we win, it will be a memory that last a lifetime. Walking out of Kinnick after a Cyclone victory will never get old and unfortunately hasn't happened for a few years now.

Speaking as a season ticket holder for many years (this will be my 9th) some of you are massively exaggerating. My group tailgates for every game and outside of your usual obscenities I haven't once witnessed full beers being thrown at anyone, vulgarity screamed at children, pee being dumped on someone, etc. You are far more likely to be offered a free beer than to have any of that ridiculousness happen.
If you are respectful and don't go looking for trouble you will be just fine. You will not have full beers thrown at you. Your children will not be subjected to verbal assaults. No one is going to pee on you. I have many Iowa State fan friends that have been to Kinnick (including with their families) and not one of them had a single horror story to share.

I’ve been to every Iowa State-Iowa game since the series resumed in 1976. Do not park at Finkbine because you’ll need to walk by Iowa fans on the way to the stadium. I’ve not had any problems since I park in the free Hancher Auditorium lots. There will be several Cyclone fans. You can take the free buses to and from the stadium. Inside the stadium I have never had a problem, except for being able to win.
I haven't been to the away game yet, but I went to a conference matchup @ Iowa when I was a sophomore in high school for some event they had. (2002ish) A freshmen (so about 14 years old) wore her ISU shirt. Hell, I didn't even get it back then as I paid zero attention to college ball at that point... But the amount of profanity thrown her way and items thrown at her as we walked from the parking deck to the stadium was pretty f***ing absurd given her age.

Honestly, the worst thing about going to Kinnick is just spending all day there while watching the team get dominated. Those games aren’t fun. Otherwise I’ve never had too much bad happen there other than have the F State and you guys suck yelled here and there.

I will say if you come to Iowa City this Fall you are more than welcome to stop by my tailgate and have a beer or two.
The last time I was there, we had the best view of the kids "waving!" In other words, we were in the top corner. However, it was pretty cool. I found this screenshot from the broadcast to help you appreciate what we saw.

I stand but what I said yesterday, "biggest pricks out there." as a fan base. You can avoid some of the trash talk if you are with fans from EIU, but a couple of ISU fans just walking along, forget it. If you park at the golf course, be sure your vehicle does not have ISU plates or stickers on it, someone will key your vehicle or damage it in some way.
There fan base is just pure trash, with a few good people added in, but I have seen even some of the good people I know, start talking trash after they beat us, and no, it was not good natured ribbing.

Disagree. I can't tell you how many times a complete stranger has walked up to me unbidden and yelled Go Hox, F the Clowns, et al. Sometimes its in your face / personal space too.
You're right in that most are OK, but the percentage of angry and aggressive is much much higher for Iowa fans.
Sure, that might happen sometimes. Who cares? Just ignore them and keep walking.
So many of you need to get thicker skin. Is it right for someone to yell "F ISU!" in your face? No. But why let a few douche bags ruin it for you? Just enjoy the tailgating and game and root for your team. Ignore the riff-raff.
Pretty accurate. They cornered the market on the low IQ trailer trash who wanted to be part of a sports team back in the 80s and 90s and it continues today. The people who pick up their yellow and black parakeet logo shirts at the local Wal Mart and wear them proudly as if they were college graduates. It's part of their "fandom" to hate us, along to an extent Nebraska and maybe Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Every car their fanbase drives is a beat-up car or pickup with wheels sticking out adorned with a parakeet logo and maybe a hok license plate. You see them everywhere.
Don't like my observations, or think I am being a bit harsh? Fine, use the "dumb" icon. I'm accustomed to it, I've collected plenty. But in your mind, you know I am right.

From my experience, that is not true. I have direct experience, not exaggeration or fear mongering. We were walking on the sidewalk next to where some students were tailgating and had raw hamburger thrown at us. No words or actions from us, just walking. Before I met her, my wife went with some UI friends and sat in the student section with them. She had an ISU shirt on, but was pretty much there to party. She definitely was not cheering because she didn't give a crap about football. Had food thrown at her. Third, in a different year, we were walking toward the stadium and had beer cans thrown at us. A drunk hawk fan who was passing by got hit and then decided we threw it even though it was physically impossible for us to do it unless they make boomerang beer cans now. That guy wanted to fight and had me by the throat and shoved my cousin up on a car hood. Luckily, some hawkeye fans saw the whole thing and talked the guy down. All instances we did absolutely nothing to provoke other than wearing the wrong color T-Shirt.
My opinion is that they have some low class trashy fans. No doubt they are outnumbered by good fans who would share a beer with you, but that minority is the worst. And easily a bigger percentage of bad fans than ISU has. To me, it's too much of a hassle getting in and out of that hole and dealing with their bad fans. But then, I don't like seeing them in Ames either. I'd be happy if this game went away all together.
If the band was going to be there we would for sure. With the late spring and home schedule I still may go because fear I will have to miss a home game or two. I shouldn't worry this far out but will worry all summer about rain.... When will it rain, too much rain, not enough rain. Go State!
The first pic is definitely uniquely Hawkeye….but the other two happen with Iowa State fans at literally every game we play. Heck, we had Weatherwax or whatever his name is go after officials and had students put racial death threats towards Elijah Johnson on social media after a Kansas game.
F the Hawkeyes is a loud and clear chant from Iowa State fans when Iowa comes to town….is that any different than the hawk fans flipping the bird in your pic?
That's just simply not true. I was walking in near a woman that took an unopened can to the head that I guarantee required stitches. Personally I've caught an unopened, popped it and chugged it. I've never seen one thrown at close range so really don't understand how being an ******* comes into play.
