Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

You are grabbing at straws.
Now do brockington though. His slow burnout at the end of the season coincides with hunters rise in percentage, so maybe the attention placed on brockington did create better looks for hunter. And, hunter made better decisions too of course

What was his FT percentage? Great shooters there get better from three with the additional year of experience.
69%. I do think he'll get a lot better as an offensive player over time, but his production and efficiency on offense from last year shouldn't be impossible to replace.

I think Jeremiah Williams in a similar usage role can probably replicate a lot of it, and he's not a slouch defensively himself. I don't know if/think he has as high of a ceiling as Hunter does though. Hunter has a lot of tools and athleticism to work with as he grows as a player. Too bad it won't be here.

That says he won't become a 35% season 3pt shooter. 69% is below the threshold for a good HS FT shooter. And, he's been shooting free throws for roughly a decade.

That said, he's still the biggest transfer out since Wesley Johnson and anyone thinking he won't be missed is nuts

No one can improve, got it

Expecting a FT percentage that is below average at the HS level to translate into a 3pt percentage that is above average at the D1 level is the problem. He can certainly improve, but there is a clear ceiling here.

Idk if I'd go that far, but I do think the number at the FT line suggest it's more than just extending his range. I do think he can become a plus shooter over time though.

Interesting idea. Show us the numbers.

Mine is Pat Beverly for a current player.

Edit: I think Tyrese has a higher ceiling as a distributor, but isn't quite as good of a shooter yet. Both studs on defense.
I'd comp him as Avery Bradley with the Celtics but Avery didn't facilitate the offense a ton because of Rondo.

Hunters nba comparison is Ja Morant. He's smaller and less athletic ( who isn't?) but his strength offensively is always going to be getting downhill off the dribble. He'll always be a streaky shooter but teams are going to give him that bc its better than letting him get downhill and create for others. They both also play the passing lanes well and create easy shots bc of their defense.

He has things to work on but his game is better suited for the nba than college.

Ja is really, really, really talented. Really.

Comparing him to Ja is a scorching hot take.

Jesus this thread is sad. He’s gone, I’m done with him, he is done with us. I think he is a very talented basketball player that I would love to have back on our team. He isn’t coming back, end of story.

Winner winner chicken dinner! My thoughts exactly! He's gone and I am over it and really don't care at this point, I care about the guys that want to wear the Cyclone uniform.

I haven't paid much attention to this thread but will click on it every so often in case I missed that he committed somewhere or something. I'm done with him and if he commits to KU or Texas I look forward to watching him get a hostile Hilton crowd that should boo and heckle the crap out of him for bailing on us for another team in the conference that likely ponied up some hefty NIL money to get him there.

It's true that free throw percentage is a good predictor for shooting success. However, Tyrese Haliburton also shot 69% from the line his freshman season. Now he did that in a smaller sample size and also was shooting over 43% from three, but it still shows that free throw percentage doesn't mean everything.

Edit:
Naz also shot 64% from the line in his sophomore season (first season of real playing time).
Matt Thomas had 67% and 71% free throw percentages his first two seasons.

Jordan shot 84% from the line, 33% from 3.
