Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

Also, thinking of coaches and universities themselves not being the ones directly doing these contracts. Like in my example above, what guarantees that a coach has to play the player to get maximum returns? They might just end up being a minor bench player, while the group that ponied up the cash wants them to play a larger role to justify their investment.

I have a tough time believing that collectives aren't being directed by a coach about what players to offer and how much to offer.

An assistant's conversation could go like this:
  • What up Tyrese we think you have mad skills and it would be dope if you became a Jayhawk. You have an interest in play in Allen Field House?
  • You do, that's off the hook. You getting run from any other schools? Auburn, Illinois and Kentucky- those are some OK schools but none of those guys are running around with a Natty Ring.
  • Hey is it going to take a NIL to get you to join JayHawk Nation?
  • Oh, that smooth talking, greasy haired sleazeball Pearl is offering you $500k/year?
  • Welcome to the JayHawks, some guy named Smiley Flush who runs a wheat farm out by El Dorado will call you about how to make $700k/year if you eat wheat bread.
If a player doesn't pan out, Cost of doing business.

The wheels are going to come off the bus faster than any of us thought in college athletics.

If you think about it, how many all-time Cyclone greats would have been here for more than 1-2 years tops, if there had been pay-to-play in their time?

We'd be foolish to assume guys like Monte, Tinsley, Fizer, Cato, Willoughby, Babb, Ejim, Niang, Matt Thomas would all be multi-year players for us.

Not saying all of them would have left early, but realistically most of that list would have cut their ISU careers short.

It's very depressing to think about.
Why is that depressing to think about? They didn't go anywhere. Why put unneeded sadness on yourself?

It is Saturday night on a message board, and we're talking about LifeWallet. Super cheap marketing. 800k for a national marketing is missing a comma. They nailed this. An existing star that would get equal penetration would be millions.

Once deals are more common place, it will be harder to get ROI just from the announcement itself, but it is no different than any other athlete endorsement. That is a large segment of the marketing industry.

Only effective if Pack is an ongoing spokesperson in advertising. Otherwise the linkage will be gone in 24 hours. People are going to wonder why Pack got paid by NerdWallet. What is NerdWallet thinking! That seems like a silly use of money by NerdWallet. Couldn't they afford to sign up a Kardashian?

I bet US Bank, AT&T and SoFi are thinking- wow we got off cheap with our NFL naming rights and Jim Nance and Troy Aikman mention our business name 30 times a game.

You know, seeing the crazy amounts being paid right now, I bet Brockington is bummed out that he missed out last year. Is it too late for him to hit the portal and keep his eligibility? I bet he could bank some good coin for one year.

You’re not familiar with marketing.

They’ve already gotten more out of that 800k than nearly any other 800k spent on marketing.

Miami. It’s all cartel money :jimlad: (but kinda not)

On a side note…not sure why you would question it from a marketing perspective. You didn’t know this company existed until today. Seems like fantastic marketing.
But I forgot the name 5 minutes ago. It takes repetition.

Plus, if I was a consumer interested in that type of product I would question if they are a well run business or some flash-in-the-pan company that won't be around in 3 years because of poor management.

They should signed up Mike Tyson. Well maybe that was the plan until he pummeled that dude, so they got the next to the next best guy- Nigel Pack.

Get real, these aren't NIL deals, these are donors looking to support their university or some rich dude trying to get in on the ground level if Pack becomes an NBA superstar.

Wonder if any of them will actually have to advertise the actual product they are getting money from? Like does Nigel have to pimp out his product? I mean I saw the Patrick mccafrey pizza commercial. Stuff is gonna get awkward really soon if no personality types like Tyrese have to shoot commercials and so on.
It doesn’t matter

Marketing is flushing money down the toilet unless people buy your product. Do you seriously believe people will buy NerdWallet's products because they gave Nigel Pack $800k?

This is not a marketing deal, this is some dude paying Nigel Pack to play hoops for UM.

Hahaha so I was wrong becuase the USC ad mentioned they are exploring options? They haven’t moved yet so I’m not wrong. Also just because you keep beating this delusional drum on a P2 doesn’t make me wrong because again it hasn’t happened and won’t for the foreseeable future.

And again almost a year ago I suggested ISU create an NIL fund doing exactly what they are planning on doing right now and was told I was an idiot.
I think your comments have been spot on.
You have been correct on most everything.
Your only error has been a lack of understanding of our fan base.

did he already hire an agent?

People have to know you exist to buy your product. That’s a huge part of marketing. An industry ripe with flushing millions down the toilet

Are you seriously one of those people that buys something because the famous person endorsed it? The simpleton unicorn consumer to marketers.

It’s both. 800k is cheap for the level of marketing they’ve gotten.

How so? Go ask 100 random people who Nijel Pack is or better yet show them a picture and ask who it is. Essentially nobody knows or gives a **** who Pack is. Nothing against him, he’s a really good player. It’s just that people don’t really follow CBB enough.

Again USC hasn’t moved. If you can get one of my posts on realignment that has actually been proven wrong and that isn’t a hypothetical then I will happily say I’m wrong. But you can’t because i haven’t said anything wrong that has come to pass.

I will admit I’m kinda stunned by the NIL deal for the Kansas state guy. When I was referring to those numbers earlier I was thinking football but didn’t specify so I will own that being incorrect.
You went on and on how the president of USC would never consider leaving the Pac12.

They’re well past considering. They will get unequal revenue share that makes them a P2 in pay, or they are gone. BIG is preferable but independent will work as a means to an end.

On the P2 discussion you mentioned the BIG not being onboard with pay to play. Not all are, but it’s more than you though then. Within 2 years all will be on board. Of course they may have to pending NCAA vs Johnsson

I mean…people are more likely to use a product if they know it exists aren’t they? As opposed to if they didn’t know it existed? This cannot be argued. can it?
