AJ Green Leaves the Portal - Staying in Draft

Maybe not now...

That escalated, AJ would have listened to Wright’s Nova pitch and rightfully so.
Not that I thought it be enough to not follow his Dad to ISU… but one major player leaving the race is nice.

Still let’s get an official word before we do high fives.

How do we know Nova was interested? JW couldn’t go from, hey AJ you wanna talk, and 2 minutes later— hey I’m done.

Depends on how much joy you get coming to the free boards and making sure the plebes know you knew a day early.

I'm quite certain more than one non-affluent cave poster paid extra just to have dumb button back when that was a premium feature.

Where's the Nova talk coming from? Besides, if its a 'here comes the list whose contacted AJ' is coming out soon, surely there will be lots of suitors.

Two time Player of the Year in a Top 10 league and just shy of 1800 points in 3 years. I must have missed Grill being Player of the Year in the Mountain West.

AJ is the second or third best player in the portal.

I knew i would get killed in general for asking the question, but I appreciate your response. Better than insults and dumb buttons.

I honestly havent watched any UNI ball for years other than this highlight vid. So maybe whats on that is not a full picture.
He reminded me of the kansas kid CFH brought in who transferred to Loyola and was really good for them on that F4 run team. So my concern is if his game will translate at the higher level. Is he explosive enough, quick enough?

I just compared to Grill because he is more athletic (quicker, stronger) and would also score a lot more in the Valley than he does in Big12. I dont think thats a stretch to say, but maybe thats a bad comp. IZB would be a better comp as a bucket getter. Do you think Green will be better than IZB at ISU? As good as?

If he comes to Ames do you expect him to be all Big12 POY? 1st team? 2nd team? I mean that honestly, not a loaded question. Whats your expectation, as someone who has seen a ton of him? It feels like the board hype is POY level.

AJ has the potential to be 1st team all Big 12 next year. He is truly that good.

I expect him at least to be Newcomer of the Year next year in the league. Just need Gabe to come back now because we’re losing a bunch of our defensive power with Hunter leaving. I don’t think we can survive a huge drop off in our defensive rankings even with what looks to be a better offensive team (assuming Green is coming, which I have been assuming for like two months and I’m not even on the pReMIuM board!)

I'm glad people out there buy premium memberships to keep this thing afloat. But I cannot envision a single scenario where I would feel I need to know Iowa State news a day or two before it becomes public. I can't imagine my life being any different had I known AJ Green was transferring on April 19th rather than April 20th.
You’re absolutely correct. I am a premium member simply because I want to help keep Cyclone Fanatic afloat, not because I get information earlier than others. I feel compelled to assist because I can afford to and because the site brings me so much enjoyment. However, I don’t begrudge anyone who doesn’t feel the same way or chooses not to subscribe. It’s a personal choice, IMO.

According to Reddit you need a top 25 defense and a top 40 offense to win a natty. We can allow the defense to slide down a few slots, but not that much to stay in that range.

How much higher would AJ boost the team's offensive rating?

Probably not 80 spots lol. Lebron James might not raise us up that much. I’m not trying to win nattys. I’m just trying to get in to the tournament comfortably.

I had to choose between a premium membership to CF and NIL contributions...

I would expect him to be on one of the All Big 12 teams. He's an elite scorer that has great upper body strength and a release that's so high and unique that it's really difficult to block. He killed teams that tried to put length on him.

I'd recommend the clip below for a true feel of his offensive game. St Bonaventure was one of the best defensive teams in the country. Long, athletic, disciplined. He put up 35 including 17 in the last 3 minutes of the first half.

Exactly. Build hard nosed teams, keep filling in those teams with talent throughout the years, make the tournament and see what happens. That’s the dream.

St Bonaventure was one of the best defenses in the country?

All Big 12 defenses were better. AdjD #90. 8 teams in the B12 were top 20. The Big 12 is it’s own level

You're right. He'll probably average 3 points a game. He'll never be able to compete. He just played at little ol' UNI afterall...

Those end of year defensive ratings probably had nothing to do with the A10 DPOY missing most of the year after getting hurt.

AJ is legit. He may not be first round or early 2nd round legit, but he’s a terrific CBB player. Regardless of whether the Bonnies were a great defensive team doesn’t change that.
