Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

CFB is the second most watched sport in the country in terms of ratings, over the NBA and MLB by quite a bit. CBB is much farther behind

Yeah, I'm sure it has nothing to do with football being the most popular sport and even states like Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Utah, Idaho, Virginia, South Carolina, Nebraska, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas all having major college teams despite not having NFL teams.

I'm sure doing everything possible to shrink college football down to a 30 team super league from the current 70 P5 and 140 FBS will really expand the viewership in those regions of the country that don't have NFL and now will have a lesser level of college football.

Better keep doing everything possible to move in that direction if you're a true college football fan.

I do think the visceral reaction from most is not about Hunter but about how freakin' exhausting it's going to have to be to sweat it out every offseason with every good player we have going forward.
You may be right but the bigger problem may be fans losing some interest and not sweating it out at all.

You keep talking like CFB is some bastion of equality as if the same have dozen teams don't make the playoffs every year or if the perennial powers don't already get the best talent. Yeah its is going to suck when you are georgia tech and your best RB gets scooped by bama. But also you are going to see some of the top schools lose the talent they have when those transfers come though.

I talk fan interest and your brain translates it to equality or parity. I’m not pretending ISU has ever or will ever be on equal footing.

You can’t remotely understand what a struggle ISU fb has historically been without even getting into the constant B12 realignment doomsday.

Imagine Michigan State had been in serious danger of being in the American or Mountain West conference three different times.

We just want ISU to be even somewhat competitive and not totally relegated. If you can’t understand that basic reality every fan here has gone through, see yourself out.

There is a decent amount of parity in the Final Four

But that is not the case for conference standings in most leagues. If March Madness turns into the conference title races... CBB will die

The tourney format is by far the best thing going for college hoops, it can be a crapshoot but rarely dull. College basketball is lifted up because of post season format and college football has always thrives in spite of it.

This thread is about hoops but football has more to lose for many reasons including that it’s already so much more popular.

I don't see how anything that is happening prevents ISU from being competitive. Sparty football was a joke for a couple decades before dantonio came along. I get the conference realignment talk and yeah that 100% sucks, but the NIL money frankly isn't going to be going to the guys ISU was recruiting anyways same for sparty. If a player finds success a lot of times they want to stick with that team unless the team is an absolute dumpster fire which ISU is not. Your basketball team went from 2 wins to the sweet 16 with some transfers and lower recruited guys, keep your coach and there isnt a reason that can't keep happening. For every hunter that leaves one will stay because of the opportunity they were given and how they have excelled under that program.

So programs and boosters shouldn’t even bother with NIL money? Why are they since it means nothing?

Should these boosters funnel their cash back to facilities since you say it’s a total waist to pay players?

Its not a waste when competing for top talent but you have no idea if he is leaving for money. When Isheem Young transfered the board lost its mind saying he was going to get ten's or 100's of thousands to go play somewhere. He ended up going to ole miss and got a $450 pair of blue jeans.

The good college athletes have been paid under the table for a LONG time…. now it’s just above the table….. and so there will probably be a lot more of it.

It does make me less annoyed about how Auburn bought a pro QB out in the open to win a Natty and NCAA was fine with the payment because it went to his dad and “he didn’t know”.

Unfair to other programs back then but at least they can just pay a pro qb directly now instead of lying they gave a quarter million to a church.

So for blue bloods it’s worth it to pay millions to players but it has no effect on any other programs? That’s nonsensical.

If it didn’t give an edge boosters would put money into buildings and ignore NIL opportunities.

Because first off Iowa state is never going to be able to match and second off he's going to get more attention and probably better coaching at a school like North Carolina. I do think there should be a way for players to test the waters without having to go full into the transfer portal. It would at least then give his current NIL the opportunity to make their own offer.

I don't think he gets it. Nor will he ever.

NIL has been around a year, and guess what almost no one is getting paid millions. Are you competing for a 5 star QB or DE that has the potential to be a generational talent? No you aren't and neither is sparty. Those are the guys that are going to command that kind of money. The rest are going to get an extra 10-20K per year. If you lose a guy for that kind of money either they desperately need the money or they have other reasons for leaving.

It won't stay that way once the scales tip towards the Blue bloods. TV ratings have been dropping from bowl games for years and currently Iowa state has some of the highest watched games in the last few years.

Bowl games are kinda meaningless now so that makes total sense but the regular season games are still doing extremely well.
