If you're paying somebody $500k or more why not just ask them to pay their own tuition? Just supplement their NIL with the amount they would be "losing" by being a walk on.

Yep.

This is another of the countless reasons college sports is just going to completely dissipate.

There are illogical elements of the existence of massively popular college sports around every corner now that will only grow by the year until it collapses on itself.

20 years from now high school kids will go to the pros or try to prove themselves in the G League or USFL for a year or two because there will no longer be fan interest like there is now at 80% of P5 programs. Fan interest and money generated and TV ratings will be more like FCS teams.

The whole thing has been a bit irrational for 30-40 years and is about to get really stupid before it fades away.

In 5-10 years the money I spend in the fall for ISU football will probably be allocated elsewhere. College sports as we know is over.

Basketball has a chance to survive a little longer because if you can get 2-3 great pieces you can support them with role players. Also there's only room on the court for five guys at a time so top talent is naturally going to be more spread out among programs than football.

Football is really going to be an impossible endeavor for all but about 15-20 programs...until national interest craters and then those players salaries and endorsement deals will start falling back toward minor league baseball players and G league players which is what most of even the best players are.

Umm football has been an impossible endeavor for all but around 10 teams for over a decade…
