We have a lot of fans who love going to games and getting that experience in return for their cash. We don't have a lot of fans who will willingly donate to a 19 year old's bank account in return for their loyalty. It doesn't seem that complicated to me.
Very fair point. While it could be argued a bunch of ways that does seem to be the prevailing feeling of the fan base.

Short explanation, it stands for Name, Image, and Likeness. Essentially it allows you to say "hey I'm Izaiah Brockington, come shop at this store" legally.

Most cases is amount to pay for play, though.
Their are specific rules regarding “pay for play” in how NIL deals are constructed but there is the language in the contract and then how it is implemented in the real world.

By and large I still view NIL as a good thing but right now it’s a lawless wild Wild West.

For sure, I think it's still a positive overall. NCAA didn't put in the work they needed to make it legit though IMO.

I think it is the right thing...it is the easier transfer rules that are mucking things up! Although...I support the players' rights completely...I just feel like the lighter transfer restrictions are what will make the sport less "fun" for the fans.

Yeah I sure hated pulling in a bunch of transfers and going from 2 wins to the sweet 16. No fun at all.

Yeah...if that happens every year that will be great! I am older...I really enjoyed watching college athletes develop over a 3 or 4 year stay at a place. I enjoyed that. I didn't say it was the way it should be and that no other system can work. I remember watching freshmen getting on the court and thinking "wow, it will be fun to watch that kid play the next couple of seasons at (whatever school he was playing at)". Now it will be "wow, that kid will be fun to watch over the next couple of seasons, good thing Google is around so I can find out which school he is playing for this season."

Can someone explain to me why this is the case? Seems like every time NIL comes up people talk about how cheap the fan base is yet also talks about the incredible support and attendance numbers? I’m just trying to wrap my head around how thousands will may for season tickets, parking, food, merch, etc but not pony up 50-100 bucks a year for NIL?

It's hard to explain but it's pretty accurate. A example could be our WBB team attendance is announced at 9500 or so but actual attendance is more in the 5-6000 range. People actually buy the seats to support the AD but don't bother to attend the games.

Personally I believe it is that people support the University and the AD but a lot of people still believe that a full ride scholarship is still a pretty good deal for the athletes.

I'm not going to argue if it is or not but I think quite a few people have that viewpoint.

Well if he leaves I’ll wish him the best and TJ will go get another point guard in the portal. Simple as that. Will he be as good as Tyrese Hunter? Who knows but he will be at ISU. We have replaced point guards with regularity at ISU.

Does it suck, yea but losing both your parents early in life and not coming from much probably sucks too. We will be fine.

I think there should be an addendum to the NIL where the school who takes the kid, in this case North Carolina, should also have to pay ISU for the year worth of development, school, and whatever amount the school has invested into that individual. I know it would be hard to determine all the different factors, but maybe just put a blanket cost on it. All the time to recruit the individual and now all the time to recruit a replacement in the 11th hour. Should be some sort of compensation for the school especially schools like ISU who can't afford to pay the kids like the North Carolina's of the world. Nothing else it would give us an opportunity to turn around and get a quality replacement to take the money and do a cash drop to someone else who is the same talent or near the same quality player as Hunter.

That's true for every fan base too.
I know three very enthusiastic Mich State fans right here in Ames - all three on faculty at ISU. The schools are similar in many ways.
Despite their financial wherewithal, none of the three would ever dream of donating to a Spartan player's bank account. Not a chance.

Out of curiosity do they donate to the school at all or is it just not to athletics? You are right that a lot of people view their tuition/R&B paid as more then enough donation for their lifetimes. A lot of the people I know who did donate to the university have switched to athletics now that the endowment is sitting where it is. We also had the dumb luck of having a few billionaires attend the school who are doing the bulk of the heavy lifting in athletics but the regular fan has been stepping up with CMT’s presence.

The difference is msu has some HUGE donors that can make up for lack of small donors. Tuckers 95 mil contract was mostly paid by a single donor.

We're cheap, but there's also a lack of awareness. We talked about this during the Campbell sweepstakes. I believe most ISU fans would be willing to donate a couple hundred bucks or whatever fits their budget, but they don't know they can or that donating is normal/expected in most fanbases. We think of donors as high rollers that get their names on buildings, not Joe Everyman in the corner of the endzone. JP needs to ask for more from the fans and give us an easy way to do it. That changes with NIL obviously, but my point is we're pretty unorganized/uninspiring when it comes to soliciting athletic donations of any kind.

For the fourth time - An organization for NIL is in the works

Hopefully Hunter transfers to Kansas so we can beat him twice next year.
As much as I would hate it, I would also love for ISU to get the chance to host him in a game. As others have said, can't blame the kid if he leaves for a big payday, but also would love to hear the boos a player gets after that kind of move.
