I am defining "impact" mid major transfers as players who averaged at least eight points or rebounds per game and power 6 role players as those who averaged at least 15 minutes per game at their previous schools. Obviously there are different definitions but this will make it easy for me to pull them out.

"Impact" Mid-Majors:
Will Clyburn
DeAndre Kane
Abdel Nader
Bryce Dejean-Jones
Hallice Cooke
Darrell Bowie
Merrill Holden
Hans Brase
Zoran Talley
Prentiss Nixon
Javan Johnson
Caleb Grill

Power 6 Role Players:
Chris Babb
Chris Allen
Korie Lucious
Deonte Burton
Marial Shayok
Michael Jacobson
Rasir Bolton
Jalen Coleman-Lands
Blake Hinson
Izaiah Brockington
Gabe Kalscheur
Aljaz Kunc

Nice list except Jacobson did not transfer from a P6 school.

I still have nightmares of him grabbing what seemed like dozens of offensive rebounds against us every time we faced him.
Him, Rico Gathers, and Mark Vital still haunt my dreams. Just insanely physical players. Gathers was on the Cowboys for a while and I know Vital is on a roster or practice squad right now.

Yeah I swear Scott Drew specifically recruited guys like that to beat Iowa State --specifically our versions under Fred and Steve. Hopefully TJ rewrites that book

Didn't Baylor have a DIII transfer in their starting lineup last year? Shouldn't we be looking for the best player not the best pedigree?

I think the NWMSU transfer would of given us a nice scoring option in the front court as well.
You're thinking of Freddie Gillespie and that was two years ago, but yes he was from a DIII school.

Drew also brought in Dale Bonner from D2 this year. He hasn't had quite the same impact at 3ppg. He was around a 20ppg scorer at D2. Still has a couple years to emerge.

Thread for it right here

Let's try and keep this thread to new 2022 transfers only
I hear ya, but we're in the middle of the season. My overall point was that the success rate of the transfers who are role players at P6 schools is much higher than the (IMO) overhyped guys who put up big numbers at mid majors. Just the mindset I'm going to start looking at the portal with

We could see transfer portal targets based on current coach's prior conferences. TJ and Blount have history in the MWC and Green with MVC. They would have a pretty good perspective on if a player could help.

How high we need to reach in the transfer portal depends on who comes back among Conditt, Brockington, Kalscheur, Kunc, Enaruna.

unless numbers is a factor, I don't care who comes back, we will still need a 4 or 5 upgrade that can man-up defensively w/o fouling and rebound well.

They should mostly know what they have in Tre King. He's been with the team for 2 months now. Maybe can play him at the 5 with Jaz in some small ball lineups?

It's also blatantly obvious to everyone that Conditt and Jones aren't good enough in the post. There needs to be an upgrade at the more traditional big spot. I'd imagine the two priorities in the portal are a wing shooter/scorer and an upgrade at the 5 spot. AJ Green and Dawson Garcia come on down

Well we know good '5's' don't grow on trees, but a 6'8 guy who can jump, defend, and not get shoved around, and maybe even with a few post moves.... would be great

Agree. I think there will be 6-7 new faces on next year's roster.

My hope is that Tre King can give the Cyclones a player to counter players like Gabe Osabuohein who tend to have career games against us. Good size and quick jumpers.

But I agree, other than another big time perimeter scorer, our next biggest need is a tall (6'9"+) athlete that can be a rim protector/paint defender.

The Cyclones.com website lists Tre at 6'7". He is probably that tall but would not surprise me if he is 6'6". I went back and looked at Tre King's highlights from Eastern Kentucky earlier this week. What I saw was a small ball 4 or a 3 that can post up guards. He has a really nice back-to-the-basket game and would complement a jump shooting 4 like Kunc.

I agree 100%, we need a stud paint defender/rebounder. We need a 6'9"+ who can get off the floor with good hands and a nose for the ball.

Haha he is a legit 6'7". Was actually listed at 6'9" at Eastern Kentucky.

We don't exaggerate heights anymore. Conditt was listed at 6'10" last season, now 6'9". Tre Jackson was listed at 6'1" last season, now 6'0". And so on.

I believe the philosophy TJ uses is you don't want to disappoint the scouts with height measurements when you show up a couple inches shorter than what you're listed at. If Brockington gets a combine invite we'll be able to compare measurements.
