NET Rankings are Flawed

I could see a 5 or 6 spot jump in the NET tomorrow. Those efficiency metrics are overrated but today we're benefiting from it

I'd be very surprised. It's a nice bump, but unfortunately the rest of the NET formula was not deeply impressed by today.

It was a home game we were supposed to win and our past opponents are hurting us with losses today. results wise this didn't net us much without the analytics.

We were favored by 1/1.5 points. Oklahoma was top 40, 5 spots ahead of us in the NET entering today. We will make a sizable jump just like we did in the predictive metrics.

Honestly moving up 8 spots in NET in one game and moving all the way to 30 in one Q2 game I honestly do think is a flaw. It really does show that absolutely piss pounding the crappy teams is a way to Jack up that ranking.

So you're saying there is a chance that Iowa might miss the tournament? That'd be humorous though the ACC only getting one team in would be too especially if we got an on air shot of Dickie V crying about it.

If they beat Michigan State next week, they will be sitting a lot better.

While he’s battling/recovering from cancer and everything. Yeah cool.

This is why I prefer resume metrics such as SOR (which happened to have the strongest correlation to actual seeding if all the main metrics last year).

Didn't know he was battling cancer. I don't follow college basketball other than ISU very close. Hope he gets better soon.

Meh. He has my best wishes prayers and everything else. I want him well and back to being the ridiculous ACC Homer he is.

But I draw the line at hoping a grown man gets warm and fuzziness over a crap basketball resume getting privelage for an overrated conference.

If you want to shame people for that that's a you problem

Maybe, but JUST maybe I don't want to see him cry About basketball, but if he's well enough to complain about something thatbogus, He's well enough for me to poke fun at.

Apparently nobody told CBS's Gary Parris about our "low" NET ranking.

The #2 bracket maker on Bracket Matrix ranked us the top 8 seed before the OU win.

#10 bracket maker has us as the lowest 7 seed after the OU win.

Style points should be meaningless. Wins vs SOS is really all that matters especially how non uniform this sport is across all the teams and leagues.

NCAA selection is about resume, not predicting the score or outcome of one game.

RPI was not perfect but we’re seeing it also wasn’t the worst tool in some ways.

RPI doesn't give a much different result. We jumped 9 in RPI after our last win. Only difference is we're ranked much lower at 58. Every ranking has its flaws.

Iowa has two Q3 games left???? What, City High JV team was already booked?

I think we’d have jumped the same spot in RPI with a 5 point win is my point.

I said it’s not perfect but it’s less about style points. Style points make sense for gamblers, not evaluating resumes.
