What were the expectations when this team was undefeated and ranked #8 in the country after beating many NCAA tournament teams?

This team has regressed. Significantly.

We caught a lot of lucky breaks. The stifling defense is now being well prepared for by our opponents. We have modest offensive talent. And a few of our players who couldn’t miss in many games now can’t hit the ocean. We were obviously overrated. People doing the rankings believe their own hype.

To some, serious regression is a sign of a good coach. Things will only get better just cause.

Who should be the next coach at ISU?

Before you 'dumb' the post like a 4th grader, what is the answer?

And not just 'well they didn't do a search' because that already happened.

Who is the next legit candidate that Jamie Pollard can dial up and bring to Ames to return ISU to its glory years of generally good basketball teams?

I'm just going to put it out there that TJ's stupid haircut is costing us these close games

Breaks? We completely controlled all of our non-conference opponents. That's not just lucky breaks.

The Baylor game was the first game the entire year where we actually had an average lead/deficit
that was negative. That was 2 months into the season. That's a trend of a solid team, not one that got some lucky breaks.
Then we completely controlled Tech and Texas who are very good teams in Hilton. I'd even argue we controlled Kansas in Lawrence for 40 minutes.
This isn't some fluke thing, it's a very good basketball team that is in the midst of one of the biggest free-fall chokes I've seen in my 30+ years watching college basketball.

why do stormin and roch keep bringing up Prohm? He was a terrible coach and nobody wants him back. That’s actually more of an insult to TJ that they constantly compare him to prohm. Based on this first year I think a better comparison is to Fran McCaffrey. Up until now only Fran had the ability to completely collapse mid season like this.

Definitely a mild mannered guy.

I guess we will find out what kind of leader TJ is over the next couple weeks. We’re smack dab in the middle of a free fall. Can he right the ship to at least be competitive?
Steve Prohm is for the most parts a classy, good guy. That didn't make him a good coach here and if he's smart he'll learn from it.

Most likely, so it's a talent issue now or we are just tired? I'm trying to understand why this team is so bad all of a sudden and I'm getting alot of different excuses.
Why is this a binary issue. It might be(likely) more than one thing. You are 100% insufferable right now.

I know this was to make a point.

But with all the moving parts with the athletic department at Iowa State, it is really scary to think about what would happen if TJ fails, and if this next group doesn’t sustain the momentum in football.

The good news is that neither of those questions will be answered for at least three years. So we can sit back and enjoy the ride, and trust the process

TJ can do it. He can recruit and assemble a roster. He can motivate. Maybe getting a modestly more talented offensive roster will open up the offense. We will see. There’s a learning curve jumping into a power conference for sure, and guys keep learning and improving for years.

It took Moser a long time to get it going at Loyola, and he is not exactly tearing it up at OU.

There are and should be some concerns and uncertainty that TJ can get it done. But that should be expected.

I’m an old school guy, so I absolutely love this team and how they play their asses off. They are limited but are tough as hell. Some of that are the players bringing that, but that’s also a credit to TJ and the staff.

I don’t think it’s a physical thing. Tons of missed open shots, tons of missed free throws, lazy passes, bad turnover after bad turnover…none of those are physical.

Our game plan and approach was great for 30 mins yesterday. And then we fell back into “pass it around the arc and jack up a bad 3 + lazy turnovers” mode and gave up a 15 point lead at home to the worst team (other than us) in the league. Inexcusable.

That is a will thing. To continue pushing to run the offense when the other team makes it harder for you.

Just watching in person last Saturday, and what you can see on tv, this group looks like they don’t have any confidence right now. They’re waiting for something to go wrong.

And they start to look tired when the other team gets into them. It may be just as much mental as it is physical.

I don’t keep a list around at home of coaching candidates. I really do wish Pollard actually conducted a full blown interview of candidates instead of basically just bringing on TJ, who has failed at UNLV and hasn’t proven himself as a coach. Oh well, you’ll eventually understand in a couple of years.

Im not all that active here anymore but if he's not in the ISR threads anymore then I'd imagine that's turned into a ghost town
I rarely look there anymore but it's mostly hok fans bragging about things and then people dumbing each other's posts. Not a whole lot else lol.

Steve Prohm murdered James H Hilton and wrecked ISU basketball and you think there was a long line of coaches ready to take this gig for what ISU can pay?

ISU's non-con SoS is now 329th in Kenpom. It was designed to give them some easy wins to build confidence.

Conclusions and expectations based on performance against the 329th ranked non-con SoS may have been a mistake. ISU hasn't regressed, they have just started playing a much tougher schedule. They aren't a "very good team that is free falling". They are a team with a substandard rotation of bigs at the P6 level and only one consistent scoring threat who isn't big on passing.
