Something to keep in mind here is - nobody is actually incorrect. This is a sticky subject where everyone wants the common goal, but how to achieve it can be a difficult road.

More donors in number would help. Giving back to an institution that shaped you as a human (for non-donors) is a start.

Is giving to athletics or the Alumni Association the same as giving back to an institution that shaped you as a human? Maybe for some people?

Get in line. All of the farming input costs are increasing exponentially.
Oh come on! You mean there are two sides to this equation?

I am being facetious.

Ag profits are better, but the masses look at one thing - revenue. There are a lot of items that fall under revenue. Lol.

I’ll be the a-hole: ISU was paid handsomely to “shape” us. The AD got ~$40mm from the conference last year, and schools are tripping over themselves to spend all the money they’re bringing in (look at coach/AD salaries compared to inflation and the facilities arms race). Asking for ‘donations’ is preposterous.

in order to reach the people of today for money it either needs to be a gofundme or an onslaught campaign of dystopian emails, texts, and mailers and just hope that people think it will stop once they donate.

The tactic of “we won’t exist if you don’t give us money!” is played out. It doesn’t seem like JP is building on success, just the same old fear tactics.

That is funny and I understand the comments. However, as we have said many times, we have unbridled capitalism within a liberal industry, universities. It is a bizarre combination going on right now, but you need to somehow keep up with the Joneses.

The NFL is full of hardcore capitalists except for Green Bay. To protect the NFL, the owners reflect more of a socialist attitude and revenue sharing.

Another topic for another day, but how do athletic departments maintain their non-profit status? Just by paying people $10 million a year so that profits will break even? Lol

We should try paying them half or 2/3s of what their salaries actually are to correct this or what they would be worth on the "open market". I wonder how that would play out 5 years from now to the Athletic Dept.?

I get what you're saying. But it's part of the beast with the way the system is set up.

Fans to JP: Pay Campbell fair market value. You can’t afford to lose him.

JP to Fans: In order to keep building on our football and basketball success we need to up donation levels because are current revenue is 10th in the league.

Fans to JP: I can’t believe you would ask me for more money.

I don’t think anyone in this day and age expresses disbelief at someone asking them for more money. I also don’t think doing it the way JP does it is the best way to elicit a response from the targeted audience. Seems like the feeble number of people donating would back me up.

I don’t think JP can change the fan base. We are traditionally a very passionate but penny pinching fanbase. I simply don’t buy the idea that there are 6,000 additional donors that would gladly cut a check for $50 if they got a coffee mug and a sticker for their car.

Maybe try it and find out.

Oh, FFS. Almost nobody is complaining. The people handwringing about all the supposed complaining far outweighs any actual complaining.

I am guessing the alumi association has nothing to do with athletics, correct? When I lived in Denver, game watches were an absolute blast and really the only reason I would get together with other cyclone fans (besides the people I knew from school). There has to be a way to incentivize donations through those clubs.
The only connection the AA has with athletics is that they use them to raise money. They don't support the AD financially at all. No money given to foundation goes to AD unless it's specifically designated to AD. On the other side the AD is required to give a % of the gross receipts to the university. University also gets a split on logo merchandise sales. Adding in the amount of "entertainment" tax goes to the city, the AD is treated like a cash cow to everyone around it IMO.

I have no problem with them increasing this. However, I am now priced out of the market for the most part. I wish I could still get tickets but Ill go the single game route and buy online when I want to see a game. It is just to much money. I am not poor but there are so many other things I like to spend money on. I hope they get people to stay with it and I don't blame them for doing it. Just sucks.

Thanks for the response. That is total bs. I would like to see these groups, specifically the ones who are really only official game watches to start asking for donations. There has to be what like 10,000 alumni that would be willing to pony up $100 for the betterment of the program. That’s a million bucks right there.

You’re fighting human nature at that point. Give something to get nothing doesn’t work.

I suspect that's a gross overestimation, and besides the Alumni Association's fundraising priority is for the Alumni Association, not athletics.
