Random Thoughts 15: Crystal Clear 2021 Edition

Rule of Furnaces, they only start acting up just before a weekend or on a weekend. 100% of the time, iron clad rule.

It's science.

I know the last time we had furnace issues it was on a Friday and we miraculously got a guy out to look at it after quitting time on Friday. He chased down a rare part for us that evening and got us back up and running at about 8 or 9 pm that evening.

Furnace guy has been here an hour already. ******* furnace was brand new last January. At least it's under warranty but is anything other than cars manufactured to any sort of quality these days?

There are times at work when people will ask me a ridiculous question and I have to hold myself back from responding like this.

Actually tell them that once and maybe they will think things through more.

Well on a good note power is restored to the neighborhood. Came back on around 530 or so at my folks at my place sometime later. Ran up to my place to get some ingredients for supper and on the way back things were lit up, fixed supper for the folks than went back and checked my house yard light was on and the furnace was on long enough to move the wall thermometer from low 40's to 60. Not very far away from us there was quite a bit worse damage with houses getting totaled feel sorry for those folks. Still haven't been out to look around too busy taking care of our own stuff. Kept a constant fire from about 2 to 6 burning up branches, roof stringers etc..... Lots to be done but just picking up the loose stuff makes things look better.

We went to Mannheim Steamroller tonight. One of MrsWx friends from nursing schools mom has been in it for nearly as long as they have been around so we went with her and got comp tickets. We enjoyed it, not sure we will go again but it was good.

If you can wait till spring you can usually get a discount. I got a new Lennox ac/furnace in March 2020 with a $2k rebate. Still ended up costing $5.3k

We went to Mannheim Steamroller tonight. One of MrsWx friends from nursing schools mom has been in it for nearly as long as they have been around so we went with her and got comp tickets. We enjoyed it, not sure we will go again but it was good.

We’re gone to a few of their shows and have most of their music. One year they did a kind of Halloween themed show here in Ames and I think had some NASA- type music and visuals.
We also really like Tran-Siberian Orchestra music and shows. None were close enough to attend this year.

Looking at the extended forecast 40s-50s next weekend. Not exactly Christmas weather but I should plan on smoking something.

That was just the furnace? I threw out a 5k number and the guy said no way for that. Unless he means the 5k minus 2k rebate.

The guy is going solo in a couple weeks so I may just hold out as long as I can because the company he works for is expensive and I don’t care for.

There is one person I stuck in ignore because he was off base and wants to prove he’s right in the long run. Reason I ignored him is that is what he always does and I was tired of him using that as a way to try to shut things down so he is proved right.
