I can't fault them but college football can be a lot less compelling for 90% of us if this is the path we're truly on. Changes in market conditions have killed many industries in the past. We'll see. Can't believe Young is leaving.

It’s to bad that the government got involved. College sports is looking at armageddon. Unfortunately they have tied the NCAA’s hands but also the NCAA should of got out in front this a lot sooner but there is weak leadership.29 states basically have laws in place that prescribe a hands-off NIL free-for-all. Good luck getting those laws changed.

Why doesn't ISU have more donors? It's an Ag School. Where are all the multi-millionaire farmers with ties to ISU? Please don't respond with ANF-GO HAWKS! What percentage of our enrollment is ag? Probably less than 15%. Why is this an excuse? Ag has been on a roll for 15 years. What about...cyclonefanatic.com

I see them putting up big money for star players and key contributors. I don't see them offering much the guy who will be the 95th best player on a roster. Rich boosters want to see a return for their investment, not some guy wasting away on the bench for 4 years that costs them $100k-$200k.
Transfer portal has created a Wild West for college athletics. Needs to be another adjustment. Maybe something like 1 free transfer then sit a year the second time and each time after that

As long as coaches have the freedoms to leave programs like nothing, the athletes should too.
It would be like any job offer. Money is certainly a big part of the equation, but it isn't everything. Coaches, teammates, family, friends, location, role on the team, playing time would all factor in if I were making that decision just like if I got a job offer with more money.
Govenment got involved in 1906 (iirc) when college football was spinning out of control. NCAA was the result (iirc). Government intervention, particularly in a leadership role (T.R. Roosevelt) isn't always a bad thing.

Why are you brining up guys that won't play? That is not what is being talked about. Yes, Iowa St will able to keep guys not good enough to be 2nd string at UT. That is the point.
You're nuts if you think boosters won't spend 20k for depth players. That is nothing. They spend more than that recruiting the same player.
I think Twins is right. Keep in mind that ISU was not Young’s first choice. He was a Penn State commit before they, and most of the other blue bloods cooled on him due to some off field issues. Since that time, Young has been great on and off the field, and the blue bloods want him again.
Freyler and Chambers probably have a lot to do with it.
Really hurts to lose Isheem but we can’t complain much when we’re 10-0 and ranked 11th in basketball after winning two games last year, after retooling entirely from the portal. I have a lot of friends in Minneapolis and they were surprised and pissed when Kalscheur left and ended up at ISU. Also have to think the few Penn State fans who care about basketball were not happy about Nick Babb, Rashir Bolton and Izaiah Brockington transferring to ISU. So far I think we’re net ahead with transfers over the last several years. I just hope this is it for football and we offset the loss of these guys by picking up some good players in the portal.
There may be some truth in this. If I remember right Freyler started taking some of Isheem’s series the last half of the season.
