The registration/check in questions for donating at the Red Cross are pretty interesting.
I know there's valid reasons but it's best to be focused while answering...went from pretty basic 'Have you been out of the country over the last two weeks?' to 'Have you shared a needle with a prostitute at any time recently?' pretty quickly.
After our defense the critical factor was probably my choice of game wear. Just sayin'.
It's all fun and games until you try and move back with an outstanding fine. Happened to my manager.
He was working a project in Washington in the early '00s and got a speeding ticket like a week before he was leaving the state (not an uncommon occurrence for him). He basically said f' it and didn't deal with it, figuring he'd never be back in that state again. Cut to 6 years later, back in Washington for a different project, and he's trying to get a his WA DL and he fines out that there is a warrant out for him! Needless to say that ended up being a very expensive ticket.
When we moved here from San Francisco, I did a quick take on our CA state taxes (along with our IA state & Fed taxes). CA owed us about 20 bucks, so I just didn't bother to fill it out. Figured they could keep it.
Three years later we get a bill from CA for over $100. Even though they owed us money, they levied a fine on us for not filing a return.

As of yesterday I was about another $50k to hit my number. Granted so much of it depends on the market but at 63 that shouldn't be a problem.
