Honestly think Matt Campbell is staying but only Campbell knows for sure. Taking the USC job pretty much goes against all of the qualities and standards that Campbell has set for himself and his whole career. It would be like selling out himself for the money and prestige and compromising the way he has lived his entire life.

Campbell leaving for USC makes perfect sense to the World that thinks money should be the ultimate goal. But it doesn’t make much sense to those who know Campbell. That isn’t the way he conducts himself. Campbell does not have an agent.? Anyone who thinks Campbell is negotiating a deal with USC, (he does not have an agent) while Iowa State is preparing to play a football games, needs to reconsider. That is not the way Campbell conducts himself. Campbell is all about character and conduct. He does things the right way.
If he leaves for more money I wouldn't view it as selling out. If I was offered a bunch of money to jump ship to another company , I would do it in a heartbeat.

I'm hoping Matt Campbell continues to do what Larry Keheres taught him at Mount Union. I'm pretty sure that's what we're seeing unfold in front of us. Larry Keheres never left Mount Union and hopefully Matt Campbell feels Ames is the place he wants to establish his legacy and establish his "coaching tree"; I never tire of watching Kyle Kempt congratulating players as they come off the field - he's going to be a head coach some day!

$4 million in Iowa versus how much to equalize Cost of Living in California. Really don’t see how Campbell Culture fits in with USC and California Culture. Campbell is a Midwest guy.

I hear what you're saying, but why did CMC leave Toledo?

When Coach Matt Campbell talks about "The Bill Snyder Model" ....Then Iowa State is the perfect place to implement that type of Model. Kind of like a K-State 2.0

Taking Jobs here & there is NOT THE BILL SNYDER MODEL...I truly believe that Matt Campbell is staying right here at ISU.

This.

You know I was disappointed to see Dan McCarney go. As far as I am concerned he invented ISU football. I felt he deserved to finish out his career here. But to me winning wasn't the best exclusive priority.

I hope Campbell returns but his is a mercenary profession. Rhodes had a chance to level up to Wisconsin and passed. Now his career is oblivion. Campbell is at a Rubicon crossing in his career.
Before you say McCarney invented Iowa state football you need to look at Earl Bruce and Johnny Majors. Look at Dan McCartney's big 12 record it was awful how can you say that about him and inventing Iowa State football???

I would not. I have changed companies in the past. When it was about money, it was because I didn’t get a raise for 8 straight years. I plan to stay at my current company until I retire and I won’t even talk to others about a different opportunity.

Not everyone is out to maximize every dollar they can. Campbell is set for life financially if he stays at Iowa State. He does not need more money to accomplish financial goals. If he leaves, it will be for professional reasons, not money.

Non P5, lack of money for assistants, low fan support, no money for facilities, etc.

To me this is the answer. But it leads to the next question. What doesn't Iowa State have that he wants?

Money? I don't buy it, he can get more here if he wants.
Prestige? Big time opponents? Better weather? The family wants to move?

None of those seem likely or convincing, but the combination could be. Who knows. As @JStanz51 said, we'll all have to wait.

I think there are other reasons he wouldn’t pick the USC job bs other jobs or staying at ISU. CA homes are increasing in value ridiculously fast for the increasingly rare few who can afford one, it’s actually a money maker for a guy making millions to have his main real estate investment in CA, far outpaces any cost of living drag.

Honestly I still don’t think this USC or LSU job make any sense for Matt.

I think what makes me uneasy more is how Matt talked yesterday. I just didn’t feel like he made anything sound reassuring with the way he phrased postgame questions.Something didn’t feel right.
