so now we’ve been relegated to stupid “perspective“ threads?
When I find myself getting extremely angry or depressed about a disappointing Cyclone loss like last night, I try to remind myself that this is really nothing more than entertainment. It's a GAME that's played by 18-22 year olds. That's it. Yes, I go crazy nuts when we have great wins, but I remind myself about perspective when it goes the opposite direction. It's a coping mechanism, I guess, but a very healthy one. I encourage others to try it out.

This year’s results have been somewhat disappointing, but it is all part of the learning process for a program that is going to move into a consistent top 20 program. We have gone from the hunter to the hunted. This is uncharted territory for this team and staff. They have a lot of new challenges ahead of them as they continue to build the program. I have faith that they will adapt to this new position and make whatever adjustments are necessary to keep the program moving forward.

Go Clones.

If it makes everyone feel better I think we win the next two now meaningless games to go and lose in some **** bowl. I’ve seen this movie before. Campbell teams flake under the pressure of expectations. But play great when the pressure is off.

I agree with this, the ******* media can shut their dumb mouths. They create the hype because they are in a no lose situation with either outcome. Big stories either way for them!

Add in that plenty of fans seemed to think last year was just something that's going to happen again.

That's not how sports works especially with the very different dynamics between the seasons.

Well we did return the entire team, so I would think expectations similar to last year are reasonable.

They all got soft on us and thought they’d stroll back to Dallas for a re-match.

That’s the perspective I see and have - wasted opportunity by a bunch of guys (coaches and players both) that got soft and complacent on us.

I think most of the disappointment (at least for me) is the WVU and Tech losses. Had we had four losses and you told me it was to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa (we just struggle with them for whatever reason) and Baylor or Kansas State (tough road games) it is what it is.

But WVU and Texas Tech are not good teams. To me, had we at least beat WVU, Tech, Kansas, UNLV, UNI, TCU, and Texas I wouldn't be ecstatic given what we were returning BUT we at least beat the teams we were supposed to imo. Close losses to the current top-3 and then in Manhatttan where we never win would have at least had the feeling of, "Close but just not there." The WVU and Tech losses just make it feel like we blew a real chance, especially if we go on and win the next two here. It will be just like 2005 of looking back and wondering how we lost those two games.

I think it was very fair for the fanbase to have high expectations considering ISU played in the championship game and had everybody back.

Clearly some coaches have adjusted to our defensive scheme and we will have to adjust again. For sure the offense needs to get its act together in the first half too.

So is this year going to be considered a disappointment by many? Sure. It is by the team, why would it be any different for us? It doesn’t mean there’s no fun to be had in the next six weeks.

Campbell's importance to the program is not over-hyped and I hope he stays for a very long time.

Campbell as a national coach is somewhat over-hyped. He's a good to great coach that's doing the best he can at a school that doesn't have a great track record of success. I don't think he's reached elite.

This year's team was incredibly over-hyped. All I have to do is compare preseason rankings to current rankings to see that. Partially the fault of the media and partially the fanbase. We did really well in 2020 and the coaches and players should be damn proud, they earned those wins. But in college football it is really hard to extrapolate future performance from previous results and that's doubly so when the season in question will always have an asterisk next to it.

Good luck with your coping routine. It’s much easier for me once the game is over I’m over it.

Seriously, where did you expect the media to rank us? We went 8-1 in conference last year, were 1 play away from winning the CCG, and crushed our opponent in one of the 4 most prestigious bowl games.

Name me another team that had this much firepower returning from a BCS Bowl win then was this bad the next year. The only one I can think of is Iowa after their Orange Bowl and that was over a decade ago.
