When does Manning become a liability?

and Manning has had the best offenses this school has ever had.

I just find it funny. Defensive coaches have always been untouchable for ISU fans. It was the same way with Wally Burnham. DCs can never do wrong in ISU fan eyes, so therefore every problem is always the OC’s fault no matter what.
You let me know when Manning schemes up something that has coaches from around the country coming to learn each off-season. Heacock was bad today, he should have dialed up more pressure especially early and not allow Smith to get into a rhythm.

I do not care if Manning has ISU offensive records. The game has changed and having awful offenses for decades doesn't mean he isn't leaving a lot on the table right now.

Here's the one I get frustrated with Manning.... he can do it.

We go tempo. We throw it out to Rus against Okie State cause they're crashing hard. We put X in the back field. He has the ability....

but for whatever reason - ego or stubborness or whatever - he goes back to what he wants to go rather than calling the game his eyes tell him he needs to call until far too much time has gone by. Its not that he's not capable of doing it because he has at times ....

the reason I think he can upgrade from Manning is because he doesn't seem to be able to counter punch at all.... for almost a half. Its like he gets so stunned when the defense takes away what he wants to do that it takes him a half or more to adjust. That's my biggest frustration with him. Is that he doesn't seem to be fluid in calling plays and how we attack opponents - more like if Plan A doesn't work he has to go into a mini coma to try to find an answer and we struggle until he comes too again.

You realize if the offense doesn’t move the ball and the D is put back on the field right away, it’s more likely they are tired and give up points? I’m not trying to excuse the D, but help ****, we have an all American running back, a 4 year QB and an experienced OLine. We shouldn’t be putting our D in these situations throughout the game. The D played bad, but 14 points against TTU first half is fireable in itself.
Scoring 14 points in a half is fireable? You're joking right?

He’s got double the Broyles award nominations as Heacock in their time here as well.

Listen, I LOVE Heacock. But that doesn’t mean he’s untouchable. The Iowa loss is 100% on Manning. The WVU and TTU loses are on Heacock. You could go either way, or special teams for Baylor.

Losses can be on both imo, as can wins.

Kansas blowing out Texas right now. 30 points on the Horns looks pretty pedestrian right now. And again, 3 points in the first half to a really poor defense.

14 points, 7 off of an interception in great field position and another with a big penalty on Tech. The offense was not good until the end of the third when there was no choice but to stop running Breece into brick walls on every first and at least some second downs.

This right here. You Manning defenders are giving him credit for the last few scores, when really he was forced to change the offense to more passes down field, cause we were behind and time running out. He had no choice. That play where Noel was crossing and was wide open, Purdy missed the throw, but ffs where was that in the first half....
Defense was a huge issue today. Heacock has really been unprepared or at least very vanilla for opponents this year.
But just cause the defense was bad, I'm not giving Manning a pass.

This staff has simply not improved at the things we have been bad at for a long time. I don’t know if it’s just stubbornness or real ineptness but it is who they are. I sat in the stands through the early 90s so I appreciate that we aren’t bottom of College football any more, and I understand that it is a short road back there if Campbell leaves. But any thoughts that we are going to be elite is an illusion until Campbell makes some changes (fire manning and hire a special teams coach would be a good start). It’s just not fun to watch this team. At this point I’m not even mad that we lose games like this. It is what it is.

Fireable no but with that many possessions available 14 points vs. that defense is pretty bad.

ISU had 80ish yards before their 2nd scoring drive.

Today's game was way too familiar on both sides of the ball.

Except for the special teams...oddly those have been the most reliable aspect for ISU recently.

Agree. That’s why I said Baylor could have gone to other way. Maybe WVU? I only could listen to that game, not watch. But the Iowa loss is Manning’s loss and this loss is Heacock’s.
I've been critical of Manning for a while, it's probably a philosophy thing more than anything else. Slow starts on offense are way too common and the offense today was only good for a stretch against what's been a very bad defense all year.

Unfortunately we’re stuck with him. The Iowa State media oddly protects him just because he’s not Mark Mangino.

@Jeremy and I have been calling for his firing for years. People just can’t see how much he holds this team back with his predictable play calling and his useless motion. David Montgomery breaking tackles every play in the back field and making something out of nothing, Breece always looking to bounce outside after another run call up the middle, and Purdy making something out of an almost constant nothing has made him look decent to people. Next season if Breece leaves he will be exposed big time and everyone will finally see how bad he is.

As I recall you were also calling the Prohm demise along with @Malone from a very early stage. You're spot on and I struggle to see why others cannot put two and two together to see Manning is just not cut to bring us to the next level.

Campbell has shown he's willing to make radical changes, ala the change in defense 2017 and canning Rudy Wade for Dave Andrews. All great choices. I'm hoping he moves on from Manning this offseason
