Screwed in Morgantown

the closest ref called that a TD and just got it wrong. No other ref ran in with a worse view and changed his TD call. Then the replay booth blew an obvious replay review.

so why when the officials with the best view gave ISU a TD…that actually likely was a TD, can the ref with the worst view run in and change their call.

this was way worse than OK State because it was four inexcusably bad calls against one team on critical scoring plays and potential game tying drive.OK st was just the one horrific call and ISU overcame it.

I think they’d also have overcome one or two really bad scoring play calls yesterdayeven with a poor performance. At some point it’s ridiculous to ask a team to overcome and we just need to be honest about mistakes on the level that they decided a game.

I just get tired of the narrative that winners overcome bad officiating that cause a 21-point differential in the game (+14 for the opponent; -7 for us), as if that's something all championship teams do on a weekly basis in their sleep. Newsflash - if that happens to OU yesterday they don't overcome it, either.

Can someone give (all) the
I was only half able to watch this on my phone while out to eat with my wife. From the angle that I saw, I thought he was down. I think somebody else mentioned another angle. Does anybody have a screenshot of that?

Precisely, that type of thinking isn’t “tough guy” thinking, it’s delusional.

Specifically it's "I'm not going to be the guy that blames the refs for anything at all costs" guy.

I have said in many threads that I 100% agree ISU didn't play their best football yesterday, especially on the defensive side. I'm just tired of people blowing off the bad calls by saying "we didn't play well enough to win", because that's a flat out lie - we played well enough to win yesterday, and probably pretty comfortably, if the refs did the job that they were paid to do instead of whatever that ****show was yesterday.

I'm not too bent out of shape about the delay of game. That happens often.

I'm not rationalizing at all. We got screwed. Multiple times. The "catch" in the back of the end zone was the most infuriating to me. I could tell in live play he didn't get a foot down. Then I watched the first replay and could tell he never got a foot down. Then I watched two more angles that showed me the same thing. These idiots looked at it 10 times and still came away with him getting a foot down? Just infuriating. One of the worst reviews I've ever encountered, and as an ISU fan, I knew every review was going to stand. They were gutless morons.
Can you give me the time clock of this play. thnaks.

Problem #1 today was the defense. Problem #2 was the refs. Honorable mention to the o-line.

I think the defense and o line were 1 and 1A

reality is as much as its been terrible for Iowa State, the terrible calls are a product of our history. Iowa State is an easy program to do it to.

i will guarantee you that if it were even okie state, those calls would have probably not have been called on the field, and certainly reversed upon review.

ou and Texas would have never had the calls made against them to begin with, and those schools literally tried to take food out of the mouths of the powers that be in this conference.

it’s a small time league that always been blatant in the hierarchy of this league, even to this day.

I didn't realize there was still 37 seconds left when the clock "should have stopped" for a review. we ended up with 4 seconds. nice..

here's the video with one angle of the breece hall fumble --

The 5 second mark is the first time where the Hall appears to be losing control. I think Hall hit 29 so hard that in the leg that he spun around and punch the ball out with his left hand.

Hall's elbow looks like it is already down at that crucial moment. From that point on, his elbow no longer moves down towards the ground. Instead, his upper arm begins to rotate counter clockwise because his elbow is fixed on the ground.

Agree on the out of bounds TD catch. But the missed delay of game WAS a 4th down call. It goes from 4th and 2 to 4th and 7, and a clear passing down. I think either WVU kicks the FG there, or we play better d knowing it's a pass situation.
If you are on defense and see the clock hit zero. And the ball is snapped are you surprised? One of our players had to be watching the clock. Maybe not supposed to be watching the clock.......

I can't believe all the whining about the officiating, like it cost us the game. The one catch was a phantom TD but I there was nothing shown from our defense all day that indicates they wouldn't have scored anyway.

Bottom line is the defense was trash, the oline was trash, Manning keeps calling plays the oline can't block for (minimal protection schemes with slow developing routes), and the game management from the coaching staff (Manning and Campbell) is brutal. We don't manage the clock well. We don't get plays called in a timely manner. We continue to waste a LOT of unnecessary timeouts.

In all 3 losses this team has been it's own worst enemy. At some point you'd hope the staff would make adjustments to correct the repeated on the field errors. I'd also like to ask Heacock why he seems reluctant to play some press/bump and run coverage on short down situations when we blitz. Too often we give receivers too much cushion and the QB can unload before our pass rush gets there. Can't do it all the time but sometimes you have to give your pass rush a chance in a game in which your D is struggling.

8:44 to go in the 3rd quarter. ISU up 24-17.

Purdy was marked down short at the 41 second mark. Pity that we only managed to run one more play in that amount of time.

After watching all of the supposed bad calls, my thoughts:

* back of the endzone WV touchdown was the probably right call. Left toe taps the ground with possession, and ball doesn't really move after that.
* we got screwed on the delay of game
* we got screwed on Hall's fumble
* Purdy was short of the first down in the final minute. Knee is down with ball short of the sticks.

Where are you seeing the tap? It's clear to my eye that he never got a foot down.

I don't know...but I do know it gave the offense extra time to make adjustments and for the qb to read the defense. Those extra seconds matter.

I believe from memory (I’m not going back to look at it again) that the spot was where his knee touched, not where the ball was at the time his knee touched. Which still might have been short, just shorter than the mark.

Agree with this except the first one...toe never touched. It's an optical illusion when you look at it from the side, but the into the end zone view was clear that it didn't come close to touching.

I can't believe so many are griping about the spot on Purdy as it was clear to me he was short with his knee down well before the sticks and the ball was not across.

You think the secondary can play effective bump and run?

I think this came up in prior weeks--the knee placement has seemed to have been emphasized over the location of the ball this season.
